Majano vs Pepshrimp

One way to help get rid of aptasia pest anemones >::: slap-stick can be by… :think) introducing peppermint shrimp. Something I did not know until recently though was this method may turn out to be less effective if you also have majano pest anemones in the same tank…

??? Not sure why? Scroll down and take a look.

Anyone ever see a 1” anemone eat a 1” shrimp???

Unfortunately this is not one of my tanks, but one of the clients for the company I work for. We only maintain this tank once a week, so it would be hard for us to see if this happens more.(that and this tank is often times maintained by other employees, so I am not in front of it that often) I will try to keep an eye on the relative number of shrimp in the tank, but it is difficult to count exactly how many shrimp are in a 265g tank.(That and the fact that these shrimp often tend to disappear on there own)

Thought this was a good pic though even if it was from a cell phone and I thought I would share. This was the first time I had seen this.

i have read that aptasia will eat pep shrimp if given the chance.

Wow, thats crazy, noway that little sucker can finish the whole thing!

I took the shrimp away from it and covered it in kalk paste. That particular anemone won’t be eating any shrimp for a while.

on the subject of things eating things in ou tank. i took this one night in my tank, and some of you have seen this before.

You know, this might not be what it appears.

Shrimp do this little thing called “molting”…

YahoO

when removed, im sure jon could tell if it was a shell or a whole shrimp. good thinking tho, good to point out in case someone else notices the same and freaks b4 they know for sure

It was for sure the whole juicy solid shrimp. I held it in my hand to make sure it wasn’t moving and completely lifeless before discarding it.

Crazy picture Glen. I couldn’t see the fish at first. Some sort of sifting goby right? It’s tricky with large fleshy LPS like that and benthic fish. Ellen watched her Dendro almost swallow a mandarin.

i had a small 1-2" rose coral eat all my cleaner shrimp in my nano :(. a rose coral is kinda like a trachy

When I first started in the hobby I had a $8 brittle star eat a $36 cleaner shrimp. That just sucked, lol.
