maxspect-riptide-gyre-generator

Not sure if any of you seen or heard of this new pump coming out. Just saw the ad in the current issue of Reef Hobbyist Magazine. Interesting pump, I’m pretty sure the price will be as much as the Ecotech. I hope not, I would like to get one.

That looks good A. there was also this recent article on Reef Builder about it with a nice action video.

and all inspired by this article 7 years ago.

I believe a smooth, gyre flow is what prop pumps have been trying to replicate.

I’m trying to get one for a frag tank to blow under the eggrate to get rid of all the detritus.

When I first saw them, I was excited and instantly wanted to get one. After seeing videos I’m less excited about it.

What is the price on this thing

Why were you less excited?

According to their website it not out on the market yet, till maybe September. I hope the price will not be as much as those Vortechs.

From what I’ve seen, it pushes a ton of flow. I also heard it’s controllable and can be dialed up or down which is great. For some reason the flow pattern doesn’t appeal to me, I prefer the really random currents from pumps rather than the lateral and gyre flow.

I don’t know - I have a feeling folks will either love this new pump or hate it. I think something like this is best served for bare bottom tanks, frag tanks and troughs and more hard / SPS coral tanks. Softies and LPS might not like this flow pattern at all.

Ya not for me either I really like the back and forth of pulse mode wave action.
