Meeting Details for January 24

OK-Â it’s time to kick off the meetings for the new year.

Since we have a considerable number of new members and people setting up new tanks we thought it would be good to go over some plumbing do’s and dont’s. Jon Gordon will be putting on a nice plumbing demo so that we can make the most out of the relationship between PVC and Glass / acrylic / plastic

Your new President (me) will ramble on aimlessly for a little while about the state of the club and where we’d like to see it head in the new year. Hopefully there will some witty commentary to keep it slightly entertaining - you can probably be sure I will make fun of at least 1 former officer ;D

We will also talk briefly about the Adopt-A-Highway program and the stretch of road the DRC has adopted (Rt.7 between Rt.40 and Rt. 273), what our responsibilities will be, how often we will hold clean-ups etc. I will also be passing around the waiver for everyone to sign - it’s nothing special it just says that if you become a hood ornament for a tractor trailer your next of kin can’t sue the state.

We will have food - although as of right now I’m not sure what is on the menu -we’ll take suggestions in this thread.

Raffle - we’re working on acquiring frags for the raffle. AWI was kind enough to send us a brand new 50gpd RODI unit that we will be using for the Golden Ticket item. We’re also including a hand held TDS meter!! How sweet is that?!?!!?!

Any ideas please post them here -these are after all YOUR meetings.

As always the meetings will be at William Penn HS in New Castle. Cafeteria on the right when you walk in the front door

let’s have some vegetarian food for those of me who don’t eat meat. GolfC one cracker or maybe a piece of cheese, possibly a carrot?
any talk of re-instituting the tank of the month tour?
bring in old bulbs??!! i have a few, ken.
reminders about frag swap at tfp.
who’s coming up from the south besides me?

I’ll bring one baby carrot.

I haven’t heard much about the bulb recycling program in a while. Perhaps something on the main page of the site or something in the news feed would help if the club is still doing it. Just remind those of us who have been around for a while and notify the new people.

I thought we were going to hear about some experiments Jared was going to do with his LEDs? Perhaps if not this month next month Jared and Paul could work together on something?

The real short presentation I’ll do will likely be beneficial to both new hobbyist and our more experienced members. Those of you who may think they have their tank set up perfectly and don’t really need to make any changes might start to reconsider. I know I did when I first learned about this new style of… well you’ll just have to come and see.

I was thinking of making a pot of chili. I could make it white chili , out of chicken. Hows that Paul.? Ive been wanting to try that anyway. Does that help?

Well, i collected old bulbs for a year, and took the lot in for recycle this fall. That was for general awareness. But everyone can take their own to the several Houshold Hazardous Waste collections that Delaware Solid Waste Authority holds each year, around the state. And Home Depot and Lowes have had collection bins near their doors.

The DSWA schedules, locations and types of hazardous waste you can dispose of with them, check their website. and take in what you have.

click on the red house for Household Hazardous Waste collection schedule. They are scheduled for spring, summer and fall, around the state. the first one is next March.

ken, thanks. it’s better than jon’s generous BABY carrot offer, not even a full-grown carrot! but no chicken for me. seafood, but no other meat is the way i go.
make the chili, though. everyone should like it. i recognize that eating the way i prefer makes it tough, but only on me. no prob.
so no bulb collection at meetings, right?

I can bring a handful of pistachios for you Paul if that helps

Make sure there sugar free, gluten free, meat free, and shelled ;D

please move my jaw after placing the pistachio inside lOl

I was afraid of that. You are a tough Bunny to feed, Paul. But I’m working on it. I’m starting to think along the lines of a Two-Part A-B mix so to speak. Part-V base and add Part-M at yer own descretion. It could work. or maybe something different. I’m working on it. I got some extra mexican turbos i could add to your portion for seafood Chili. Tangy!!

This is turning into a sort of chemistry experiment.

honestly, there is no, i repeat, no reason to go to any extra trouble. i will have had supper, and can easily just do snacks. it’s not as if there are a bunch of veg heads. that’d be a different story. soda, pretzles, chips, i’m fine.

Ok Moli. No problem. Chili it be, but im working on something vegan too. You are probably not the only one. just the most well known, or vocal. I got time to play with it.

I guess that makes me the young guy and you the baby :P

still have my teeth. not bad for a spanish american war veteran.

This meeting is at TPP right? Just want to make sure.

Nope it will be at William Penn high school, New Castle, Delaware. Perhaps one of the mods can edit Craig’s original post and the news feeds to reflect this semi important piece of information.

It’s on the Home Page, left column. Date, time, location.

Good news, I’m pretty sure I’ll finally be able to make a meeting! =]

OK due to some slight personal life conflicts we are not going to have the much anticipated plumbing demo this month. We’ll try to do this again next month.

To fill the time we’re going to have 2 other items to entertain us - -no Ian will not show up juggling flaming unicycles while wearing a polka-dot bikini and playing the kazoo –

We will have some PAR readings from Paul’s new AI LED fixtures to discuss and compare. He apparently is even going to bring us some pictures!!! YahoO Pictures are always good

We’re also hoping to be able to have a conversation regarding frag tanks, what you need to set one up, what you need to be successful, lighting, filtration, etc. Rumor has it Bill may actually be bringing the frag tank he built and can discuss that process as well.

Well here’s for hoping we can kick 2011 off with a great meeting. We had over 40 people at the December event - I’m hoping we can get that type of turn out without a bar available too :stuck_out_tongue:
