I used to only have a few of these things but they seem to be popping up more and more, I’m sure i spelled it wrong. I want to get rid of them and i heard that making a thick paste of kalk in a syringe and squirting it into the center of the anemone works. Does anyone have the appropriate tools and or a little bit of kalk i could use? I don’t use kalk to dose my tank and don’t have any syringes. Any help would be appreciated.
i have lots of kalk, but it’s really cheap. also called pickling lime, available at walmart or most lg stores. syringe i don’t know about, but putting the paste so that covers up the nem works also and prevents them from shrinking up real quick.

+1 with Paul. Matt, you can get Mrs. Wedge pickling lime at most Walmart. As for syringe some LFS sells them for that purpose. If you planing on going this route you can also buy a kit such as aptisiaX, joesjuice or some other brand it usually comes with syringe. And once those are gone you can keep the syringe for later use and buy the pickling lime for cheaper price.
First thing I would like to suggest is to read why the aptisia or this mahano is happening in your tank and reduce what ever it is that is causing it.
Also, just to let you know this method does not kill all unless the paste is actually put at their mouth. Make sure there’s no or very very slow flow in the tank, other wise you will get it on other animals in the tank and you don’t want to do that cause that will also burn them.
There’s other method in killing this pest, but that’s another subject in it self. Let us know how it turn out for you.
I may have some kalk, not sure, but I know I have a couple of the syringes. If you still need it by the meeting I’ll bring it there, or pm me if you need it before. I’m in Newark.
I always just kill the flow and use an old 3-5ml syrnge to lay a thick kalk slurry on top of them. No need to inject it just pile it up on top. Then if you want you can use some rigid air tubing attached to some flexible tubing to siphon out the animal and kalk.
If you have seen an increase in the animals it could be a sign that your nutrients or available food has increased. Check your Nitrates and Phosphates and work to reduce them. If your feeding anything at all for your corals stop for a couple of weeks while your fighting the anemones. Even in an “ultra low nutrient system” the corals are unlikely to starve to death with two weeks of no purposely added food.
For the purpose of making this thread findable for others that are looking for help the animal causing issues are:
Majano anemones
not typically considered desirable animals.
