my orange monti keeps loosing its color i think i may need to frag it its getting way to big almost the size a dinner plate now with several layers. also i have some grape and some tan i may get rid of if. it doesnt seem happy in my tank.
thanks
Well if you need a tank to put some frags in please let me know.
I’m always available to help a fellow reefer Saint:)
seriously - I’ll buy a couple frags from you if you want to sell.
the grape and the tan im just going to take out so i can do that im not very happy with it at this time. they are pretty good size pieces. here is how my monti looked about a month ago
Just let me know when/where/how much and I’m there.
Craig
here is a pic of some of the rest of the monit.
think im going to frag the whole monti pieces and see if other people have better luck with it. so it will be free or just trade for softies
Those colonies look pretty good. When you say they are bleaching, do you mean the white rim around the edges?
Looks pretty high up there, what kind of lights are you running? How about your params? Ca, Alk, Mg, Sg?
I’ve already got a small frag of a similar red/orange monti cap, but I wouldn’t mind another!
I have a small orange/red cap, but I would be interested in the other two. I can come up with quite a few different softies to trade, what kind are you interested in?
yeah its high up there my params are fine and as far as lights i’m running an aquapro 72" with 3 150 halides 2 20k and 1 14k with 4 96 watt pc.tunze stream pump for flow feeding dt and oyster egg. i think im going to have to start adding other supplements.
white edges are normal. If mine starts to whiten i just do small water change and they seem to bounce right back, also as the bottom layers get covered by new upper layer they will lose there color but will still grow. only the part out hanging the upper layers will color. your pictures look like they are fine to me. but if you are going to frag the grape one i would like a nice frag of it.
dito, the grape looks nice. i dont have much experence with any sps but my pars are all dead on. all your coral looks nice o yah :Welcome). what is the size of the aquarium?
“my params are fine” define “fine”. Ca, Mg, Alk, Nitrates, Salinity, Temp.
Also when was the last time the bulbs were changed? Reflectors cleaned? Any salt creep between the bulbs and the water?
When was the last time you cleaned your pumps(both return pump and power heads)? In time your flow could decrease due to biological build up.
Fragged any softies recently or lost any other corals? Released toxins could be trouble.(dilute with water changes and add carbon) Or if a new coral died perhaps a pest or disease was introduced.
Sorry to hear they are bleaching and sorry for a short response. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.
