I thought I would share some pics of my clowns first spawning.
I don’t have time to raise the babies, but I think it is cool that they are spawning.

Awsome Ellen! Looks like you have some happy fish. I have always wanted black clowns like yours. Very jealous.

Thanks Jon. Don’t be jealous. Black clowns are easily aquired…LOL…
I wish I had time to raise some clowns then I would give you a couple.
I thought for a breif second about asking you for some larvae, but the gf would kill me if I took on any more fish. Life has been too busy, especially with the holidays, and I need to take care of the animals I have currently.
Black clowns may be easy to come by, but the color patters yours have a very nice. Many of the ones I see have brownish noses. Yours were from ORA right? Purchased from an online store?
Looking Good. Same rich colors as my saddlebacks, just different stripes. If they are from ORA, I guess that ends the rumor they sterilize fish, like the black misbars and others.
My understanding is that ORA treats some of their systems with copper in order to minimize losses. This processes can temporarily cause the fish to become sterile or at least throw off their breeding for quite some time. That is what lead to the sterilization rumor.
The people from ORA seem to be really trust worth people and I have heard from them several times that they do not sterilize any of their fish. That being said if Ellen bought two ORA fish at the same time from the same batch… they’re likely brother and sister. So… yeah. lol

It is not likely that these two are brother and sister as I bought them about 3 months apart. They are both ORA clowns purchased at DPA.
Now that I write this I guess there is still a possibilty that they are related as they are both ORA clowns.
The male is taking very good care of the eggs with the female keeping others away. It is neat to watch.
Ellen I have seen clowns over and over again learn to become parents while working on tanks. There parenting skills usually aren’t that strong the first time. You’ve got some mature intellingent clowns. I’m glad they are not Maroons or tomatoes. If they were you probably wouldn’t be able to put your hands in the tank at this point. I was working on a tank today where a male Tomato bit me about 3 times and I hardly put my hands in the water.
Fantastic pictures. Your clowns are really nice looking and the shots with the eggs are so clear. would be cool to see little ones swimming around.
I ran into a guy in inner city Phl that is breading Gold Stripe Maroons. Normal GS Maroons are little devils I can’t image how breading pair is.

Thanks John. It is cool watching them tend the eggs. I thought they had eaten the eggs as I couldn’t see them today, but they are just a silvery color now. It is hard to see them as they blend right in. This clutch is pretty small also. I wonder if I will even notice the tiny babies when they hatch?
Nice! I wish i had picked up a pair of the blacks, I got one from DPA’s ORA order last year, I wonder if they are of the same brood?
show them this pic and see if they recognize him! LOL

Yours is a misbar? I always thought they look cool. Your fish looks even darker than mine. Very nice. You can still pair her up if you buy a small male. Thats what I did as I bought my two 3 months apart.
Elle, if all the eggs have shiny silver eyes, they are about to hatch, maybe tonight, tomorrow. they will hatch about an hour after lights out. but you wont see any larvae in the morning. they will have all gone over the falls to the sump and filters by then. or been a morning breakfast for your other fish. You will have to turn off all sump pumps, and powerheads when the lights go out . dead still water in the tank. when they hatch, they look up for star light and swim for the surface. so put a tiny, dim light at the far end of the tank and they will swim to it. you can scoop them up there with a bowl if you like. and then raise them on live rotifers for the first week or two.
