Thought i would share a couple of quick pics. Picked these guys up early this morning. These are pics of them acclimating. Put them into the tank(they were already QT’d and treated by the diver Jon ;D) early this afternoon and they are doing very well. By the end of the day they were swimming the full length of the tank which is a good sign because these guys are known to hole themselves up for the first week or two and go on hunger strikes. The didnt eat yet but they did show interest when i fed the tank.
Im sure more than one person has heard me talk about these guys over the years. The have been one of my holy grails since my first days in the hobby and i dont have words to describe how beautiful they are in person. Especially the male who is simply stunning.
Nice pair of fish. I don’t know much about triggers, but these are supposed to be reef safe right? Will your cardinal fish be safe? I would like to see more photos of these when they are settled in a little more.
they are as reef safe as triggers get ;D there are at least two genus of triggers that have a different mouth structure than the triggers that are known to be more aggressive. they have an upturned mouth and are primarily planktonic feeders. the other thing that i think makes this species a little more calm is that they are one of the few triggers readily available in the aquarium trade that are pelagic. im fully prepared for them to make snacks of my CUC but i dont expect any trouble with other fish. my biggest worry with these guys is knocking over my corals and rockwork when they "nest" but my male shocked me last night by sleeping at the top of the tank underneath my returns. my other fish dont even seem to recognize them as predators. my school of cardinals were mixing it up with them yesterday.
really pretty. different views needed to show off the markings.
I had the pleasure of seeing these two in person when i picked up a couple frags… the female hid mostly, but the male was out swimming laps, you could tell he already owned that tank… Incredible Fish! and its def. bigger than 7inches (who hasn’t tried to say that before) lol…Awesome tank, and tons of cool stuff to stare at, and that rockwork “mountain” on the right side is done no justice in pics! Shawn was nice enough to re-arrange his entire living room so i could get next to the tank…thanks Shawn… and every time i was trying to check out corals my eyes just kept going back to that trigger! you gotta get a video up of them swimming!
good luck with em’
thank you for the kind words. i was considering taking a short vid of the tank because i think it would be easier than trying to get pics. maybe ill have time this week.
shawn’s setup is so simple; it’s fascinating. the tank also grabs your eye as soon as you enter the room. it is a bit big, you could say, [HA!] clean and really bright, down to the bottom. what a stunner the male trigger is. when i was there, the female did mostly hide, but the male was incredible. he moves like muhammed ali. blink, and he’s at the other end of the 7 foot tank.
thanks shawn, and also for the corals.
