the subject sez it all i was just wondering if this is normal? only had him about 2 weeks didnt take to flake till a few days ago so i figured he was just hungry but he is still at it. grabs some the spits it all over the rocks. he seems fat and happy so im not worried just perplexed

Wow nice acan. Is the blenny just moving sand or is he actually sifting it? I know my diamond goby takes the sand in his mouth and it comes out through the gill opening. Maybe the blenny is just trying to move some sand to make a burrow.
he will grab some go sit on a rock the sift it out.
i dont think starries dig burrows. he learned he could get some food in the sand accidentally, and he understood he could get more food if he did it more. or else it’s fish ocd.
My starry doesnt sand sift, he likes to dance and bite at the glass though. Try getting him hooked on some nori, in no time he will be eating it out of your hand and forget all about the sand.
i was puting some on the clip and the tang started eating out of my hand and then tryed to tang me.

Never seen them do that, but most of my experience with them was when I worked for DPA. Andy may have more insight, but he’s been too busy for the forum so you might just have to find out when he is working at Premium again and ask him there.
Oh yeah and we have a XL one at the Shop tank and Armco Aquatics. I’ve never seen it do that, but there was crushed coral in the tank and now it’s bare bottom. Might try asking Rich if he ever saw it acting that way.

my starry usually gets mouthfulls of sand when eating the cyano or food that is down there… then he Poo’s it out where ever he is swimming. they do not borrow either.
whoa, I bought a Tiger Wardi sleeper goby saturday night from DPA, and let me just say ,that thing is an excavator. diggin fox holes all over the place. just what my old frag tank needed, a good plowing under. the sand is pretty dirty. but it keeps covering frags up with sand. so i shake em off every day.
