I think my Xenia has a favorite spot. In a recent post, I’d explained that he wasn’t doing so swell, but ever since a few water changes and a smoother method of top off, he’s been doing swell. But when I moved him recently, he didn’t come out as much as when he was in his previous spot. So I moved him back and hes out, fully extended. The other spot is in practically the same amount of light and the same flow rate, just on a different rock structure. Even the height from the ground is practically the same. Is this strange or normal?
they can be fussy. My red sea xenia only seem to grow on my overflow box, the heat and powerhead next to it.
i think xenia is a woman species, they are a must, they are fussy, they really are never happy, and when you give them alot of love they take over your life. jut my :TWOCENTS. Still my favorite coral species ever
Hard to say. Good to try to understand it, but wouldn’t stress over it. There are too many factors involved and xenia is as Michaelangelo and the kaptin pointed out.
Could have been that when you were doing a lot of water changes before that the new mix of salt was a little harsh, the alkalinity was off a bit, or the tank was just too clean. Could have been that your hands were in the tank more before stressing it out. Could have been that the light was very different, but hard for you to see.(brighter end of the bulb, salt on the reflector or glass) Could have been a million factors.
If it is happy where it is I would leave it where it is. When it’s growing out and you have several specimens to play with you can try out different spots with out fear that you’ll lose all of it.
