need help on sump fuge

was wondering if any member in bear area thats good with diy projects would be willing to either give me a hand or would make me a sump/fuge. i already have the tank which is a 30 long.I just completly suck at doing projects and it would either be broken or look crapppy or not work when i got done ??? ??? ??? :SURRENDER :SURRENDER :SURRENDER

What do you want to build?

A sump, a fuge, both?

A sump is easy -it’s already done - it’s just the tank. Now if you want to add a fuge in it then you have to start installing baffles - again not difficult. You could always get a 20L and make a seperate fuge all together and then you don’t have to worry about baffles.

I drain my DT to a sump in which I run my skimmer, then pump it up to a seperate fuge, then let the fuge gravity feed back to the DT.

i dont want anything out of cabinets so i just want a fuge

It’s not difficult to build it as a sump and fuge in one, all contained under your cabinet. It just takes a couple more baffles. I could give you a hand with it if you want. That is how my sump is set up, I will post up a photo of it tonight if I have time.

Ok, so here is my sump/fuge. It is made of a 55 gallon tank cut down to 37" long. The drain from the tank comes down behind the remora, where there is the first baffle that you can’t see. The fuge is in the middle, and then the last chamber has a bubble trap and my reactors/ return pump. I’m in Elkton, not far from you, and I can give you a hand if you want.

hey rainmaker, is that a good brand of vodka to dose?

Its what I have been using for a while to no ill effects, and at $8.99 for a 1.75, I’m not complaining. I never had detectable nitrates or P04, but my macro was growing like mad, so I just started at a low dose, and stopped at 4ml a day, and I cured my dinoflagelate problem, and have had a huge reduction in sludge overall.

Hey Rainmaker, any other wisdom to share on ridding a tank of dino’s, or is the vodka dosing the key? what size is your system. I’ve tried everything but vodka, but just started dosing 1.5 on my smaller setup (30 with 20g sump) want to see how that goes before dosing in my 125. I’ve tried everything the Kapt said except vodka, nothing has really worked, i hope this is it.
btw no nitrates or phosphates detectable in my systems either.

I think the vodka is what did it for me. My display is 75g and the whole system is about 110. I tried GFO and installed a fuge, but still had the problem. I also put the vertex biopellets in a reactor after I started vodka to help with missed doses. It took a while, but I am now dino and cyano free, if I could just get rid of the hair algea.

Lytechinus variegatus love the hair algae, and they are a reef safe urchin to boot. They may pick up the occasional frag, but they don’t eat them.
