Need Help picking a Fixture

Looking for a 6 bar T-5 Fixture. Any suggestions? I was looking at the Nova Extreme Pro, Aquaticlife, and ATI, BUT I know there are other comparable fixtures out there.

I was looking at Novas and it looks like you get what you pay for after a while (3 years and start to have problems, and ive heard its hard to get replacement parts)

I really like my AquaticLife fixture now, and the 6 bar looks pretty impressive. It even includes LED’s which is awesome. It also come with its own built in timer.

Finally the ATI. From what I’ve heard and read there really nice fixture, but there just a little too expensive for me!

I haven’t been looking around too long but from the looks of it the AquaticLife fixture seems to look really nice, and will not completely blow the budget.

So please any input would be appreciated, I know allot of people have the Nova Extreme Pro, would like to get an idea of what you guys think about it. Thanks Brett

Sorry, Im looking for a 4 foot fixture, thanks for the offer though.

I havent looked at the nova enough to really know its quality so if you own it or have used it please chime in here.

I have the 4ft 8 bulb to i like it to. I might be putting that light up for sale as well i am going to leds but not sure when i would be able to put it up. leds are way to much $$$$ lol. but i hope it will save me money down the road.

forgot I would not use all the stock bulbs in any of there lights you would have to buy the light and then take out 4 of the bulbs and put in like ati blue+ or some other bulbs the light that comes out of that fixture is way to white for me. looks like a 10k or even more yellow than that. but it will grow just about anything under the sun.

i understand that, i was planning on swaping out the bulbs after the tank was done cycling and there were some harder to keep corals (sps)

I’m happy with my aquaticlife 6 bar. had a few small issues, but their customer service is excellent.

tek uses no fans.

I am considering upgrading to that fixture. What problems did you experience? My 4 bar AquaticLife fixture has worked perfectly.

The Nova fixtures are made by Current. If you are happy with them… then you may have been one of the lucky few that has a working fixture. Both the bulbs and ballast have had major issues in the last several years and when you are dealing with light fixtures that is pretty much the whole thing.

You could buy a light fixture and discard all the bulbs that come with it and pick up some ATI or you could buy an ATI light fixture…

I used to be all retro with IceCap parts, but that company is the biggest joke out there. They have been for over a year now and are bought out by someone else and moving, but the company has to start picking up the phone and returning e-mails if they ever want to repair the reputation. Won’t be easy. Kind of stupid to buy the whole brand with the name. OK, I’m venting. TMI

Andrew, mine had a loose moonlight wire…easy fix if the fixture wasn’t such a monster to move! and after a storm in the late summer, the fixture wouldn’t turn off… i told them it might have got zapped… but they rushed out a new module in 2 days no charge, the day the part arrived… it started working again…go figure. the parts on standby if it happens again. They did tell me that shipping was very hard on their 6ft fixture though, and to say it again, the customer service is impressive.

my nova extreme has needed all new ballasts for in 2 years of use. i don’t like them.

I have a Nova Extreme Pro and to be honest aside from the acrylic lens getting stuck in the channel from salt creep and me cracking one of the legs because I’m as gentle as an ox - I really can’t complain about it. It’s bee a great light. It turns on when it’s supposed to, turns off when it’s supposed to, all the lights work, and my corals continue to grow. The fans are a little louder then I’d prefer but then again so are my children.

Thanks, it doesn’t seem like AquaticLife has a lot of problems with their fixtures. I had a few Icecap bulbs blow within 2 days of purchasing them of course no response via email.I agree with Jon on the poor customer support.

I think there is going to be a percentage of just about every product made that is defective. If that percentage is very large then obviously it is one to avoid. Thing is even if the percentage of failures is very low if the company is non-existent for support then the product and brand get a horrible reputation.

During the first several years of operation EcoTech Marine had issues with there first and second generation pumps. They stood behind them and were very gracious in their support. They got most of the kinks worked out, released new models and upgrades for the old ones. Classy operation.
