needle wheel replacement

ok, so i have a reef ocotopus 8" 200. forget the letters on it. anyway…i have the purple needle wheel in there and i have been searching the internet for the last hr trying to locate a new 1. basically the tab that drives said wheel broke, i tried to glue it cpl months back to no avail. well now i am trying to JB weld it tonight at work. figured i would try and replace it if this doesnt work and just to have it on hand. well apparently they discontinued that wheel. i saw on the web there is mods that you can do with mesh. i just didnt know if some 1 had an extra laying around or any ideas as to a modification for a wheel. i would b willing to pay for the wheel, i am just trying to get a solution as of now.

thank you all to helped on my other post about the new trigger sump, i was able to drain the 55gal sump and drain display tank enough to pull it away from the wall and remove the old sump. today i worked on getting the new sump in the stand and did a water change. so far…besides my protein skimmer not working…it looks amazing and is working out great. i tried to post a picture but i only have a cell phone currently and said the file was too large to upload. i will try and repost the pictures as soon as i can figure that out.

If you want to post pictures for now you need to use photobucket. Its a free app for the phone. Thats how most of us are uploading pictures. Can you post the info for the mesh mod and maybe we can help figure it out. Also reefoctopus sells new pumps to convert that skimmer to new pumps if that’s any help.

I have done the mesh mod before on some of my skimmers and it really does work. It was easy to do. Do you have a pictures of the needle wheel. Knowing what it looks like will help on how to mod it.

Well I broke down and ordered the whole new shaft and needlewheel for $60. Everything I have read about the mesh mod is they need to be redone 2xs a year. Guess the downside to having the older skimmer. I’d like to look at possibly replacing the sicce psk2500 pump but that pump is still strong. N it’s not cheap.
