Well yesterday, Lindsay and I got our new tank, and got a shipment in the same day! (Very busy day!) We decided to get a new anemone (ritteri) for our clowns b/c they have beat up every BTA that we have purchased. Well… with no further delay:
Here is when they first hosted after the lights went off:
And now today once it found where it wanted to stay with our clowns
This was my female gazing into the center of it:
As they get use to it:
After feeding
We know that Ritteri’s need great care, very good water conditions, and great flow, and we have that and it is very happy to this point and We will keep you updated

I really like your sand. I tried the black mix once, but it got dirty really fast. What do you have for a CUC?[/quote]
joe, i totally agree. i have a mostly white with about 5 % black. doesn’t look nearly as nice as the mostly black.the black in my tank, though, seemed to pick up hold and grow algae and dirt much more than the white pieces. got a white sleeper goby and my sand is spotless though. he is a busy boy.
Thank you We had no black for a while and always talked about how cool it would be to have… but then we decided to get it 3 months ago… That was a bit hectic b/c we bought a bag of the Hawaiian live sand which is almost all black, then just mixed it with what we had. It turned out great but that was sure a stressful day for all our fishes and us :P.
Our CUC is just a bunch of snails: (turbo, astrea, and some nessarius)- i know i probably misspelled them but im tired lol and we have two hermits… that don’t do anything except kill astreas for shells lol. But the nessarius do a great job going through the sand cleaning it up! We make sure we do water changes twice a month and the tank does the rest (That on top of the fact that our two cleaner shrimp eat everything that comes into the tank if our fish don’t including flakes and such so… the only real waste is just their poo but… we have A Lot of flow through the tank b/c of the ritteri and it picks most the crap up and sends it right into the filter sock which we make sure gets changed when needed The protein skimmer does the rest of the filtration and that is our tank for the most part
One beautiful new anemone. I hope it does well for you. I am no expert with anemones, but it seems happy so far. Do you plan to spot feed it or feed extra for it broadcasting? What sort of foods?
I spot feed all my anemones Twice a week. This guy is different lol… HE’S BIG lol Lindsay fed him silversides and a Krill yesterday and seemed to really like the silversides We will still probably only do 2 times a week but will probably feed him more each time until we see how much is good for him. For the next week or so its just catering to its needs so that it adjusts well but it has already allowed the clowns to host and it seems to be doing great so we are really excited
very beautiful nem you two. I sure am jealous. Those are not the easiest to acclimate. It sure looks like you got a healthy one. I love the video. What type of lighting are you using over its tank?
Thank you Ellen We Love it, and in the first few days it has acclimated well. Initially we did a 3 hr drip to a gradual stream. As the stream was going we put a rock in that it could attach to (about second hour). We then added it to the tank and it has been happy since.
We are running:
It is very high in the tank and seems to be happy. If we see any signs that it wants more lights we are gonna throw the light we got from you on until I get down. Hopefully it’ll stay happy tough

I am not very experienced with nems, but everything I have read says they do much better with a point source of light (metal halide) centered directly above them. Don’t change what you are doing if it is working, but it might not be a bad idea to post over on Reef Central in the anemone forum. There are several people over there that are successfully keeping this species and they could offer you the best advice for keeping it happy long term.
I have read that that does help them… and ESP the Ritteri anemone’s but the plan is once the new tank is set up and cycled, we are gonna move it to there And for now it seems to be happy, and hopefully it’ll be even happier w/ the better lighting Our other anemones haven’t had problem’s with this lighting though
