no one said anything about meeting at two different places.

He meant to say “no one said anything about meeting at two different places at the same time.”

It is a no brainer to occasionally have events at different locations, but two events at a time isn’t likely to happen any time in the next couple of years.

all regular meetings will be held at WPHS in New Castle for 2010. there will not be two meetings in one month as was attempted this year.

there will be one “event” held quaterly where every attempt will be made to find a venue down south. we will also make every attempt to have it on a weekend instead of a weeknight. we will have a monthly “event” in the summer months in lieu of regular meetings which will also likely be on the weekends and could be up north or down south. in addition to these these events there will be several annual events including our BBQ, XMAS Dinner, and hopefully another “big” speaker in the spring like last year.

Hey Shawn thanks for the info about meetings. I would like to join the club. Can I send in my payment by check or paypal to you or the treasurer. The meetings in NC will be too far a trip for me, but anything closer south I will make every effort to attend.

hey John, there have in the past been carpools from the south that could be looked into by all the southern members. Surely a car ride with friends with talk about the hobby cant be that bad!? lol :BEER

I have 2 dover locations that could be possibly be used as BBQ locations also. One has a back yard, the other has 3 acres.

No i did not mean at the same time. I meant not flip flopping between venues for each meeting. like one north and one south, as in north in feb and south in march…

I was wondering where the Marketplace went…
I’ve bought stuff off Jon before from there, was hopefully going to again (if money frees up soon).

I never joined the club because i cant go to any of the meetings (they are always weeknights). I figured why join if i cant make the meetings? Now i cant even trade or buy corals locally from you guys?

Our focus for the DRC this year will be strengthing the community aspects of the club which include the personal relationships that evolve from local meeting and events. We certainly welcome online only members and plan to do a lot this year to enhance the club’s online experience. However, the site will reflect the club’s direction by placing priority on the premium member’s experience. While i believe that B/S/T is very important, the marketplace will remain a feature only available to premium members. I understand that you can not make regular meetings because of your schedule. I also work every monday night. However, we will be having quarterly events held on weekends this year to give everyone an opportunit to participate.

nemmy im not 1 to tell anyone how to spend $$, but 10$ to be able to use the b/s/t seems cheap, well worth the savings or earnings, if u wanna sell something. even if u never go 2 a meet, it makes sense. jmo

According to this thread i have to go to a meeting to sign up (the $10).
Someone above asked if paypal or check was an option but i didnt see a reply.
Yes its cheap, but i feel that livestock is the best way to try to get people to sign up. If a “registered member” sees a frag they want tell them to come pick it up at the meeting. If they enjoy themselves they might sign up as well.

This wouldnt work for every “registered member” though due to schedule.
I just find it odd that the major thing that drove me to this forum (the marketplace) is now for paid members only.
If this was the case in the beginning i probably wouldnt even be a member here.

Dont mind me, I just have issues with everything any more… carry on.

Nemmy, I live in Salisbury,MD, I believe that I was the furthest registered member. I was able to become a premium member by sending an email to the treasuer and get the form to fill out. I then sent my check to the club. His email addy is Ziegler, Martin… treasurer@delreefclub.org
I have been selling frags for over a year now, and believe me the $10 fee is well worth it. You will be able to get qaulity frags from the other members at a substanial savings. This of course will make up for the fee many times over.

I would just like to point out two things.

Everything John(Houndsbayman) said is true but one IMPORTANT part he left out is that he is coming to his first meeting ever this month. Motivating advanced hobbyiests like John to participate and contribute is very important for the future of this club and was no small factor prompting the recent changes.

Second, and i cant stress this enough, our site is not Craigslist. If your only motivation for becoming a premium member is to utilize our Market Place then yes, like John said, you can contact our treasurer and do so without coming to a meeting. We will never deny anyone membership for any reason but, like i said, we are more than a Market Place and i encourage you to attend our weekend events.

I buy most of my frags almost exlusively from local members including John. Hobby level aquaculture is a critcal component for the success of our community and the hobby at large in my opinion. However, for now, it will remain a privilage extended only to our premium members.

I appreciate your feedback!

Shawn just you know John did make to DRC events in the past that you missed out on. He hasn’t made a “Regular meeting”, but he came with the group to Dr. Mac’s and was at the Fish Bowl during the fragging demos I did.

For what it is worth, I know the decision to move the Market Place to the members only section did not come lightly and the current set of officers, as well as previous officers, discussed and debated it for a good length of time.

PS. Locally aquacultured corals rock!

I said meeting not event :stuck_out_tongue:
