So i just finally finished building my new canopy however i had a few questions. There are no fans, only two holes on sides for cords and i have two multicolor LED lights inside. I ran the lights in the canopy for about 4 hours and the air inside the canopy reached 92.5 but the water temp was fine (like 79). Does the air in the canopy matter or is it just the temp of the water? So if i run it all day and its hot as hell in the canopy but the water stays at manageable temp like 80 or so is everything ok or should i still put fans in?
you may not need a fan but I would put in some convection venting.
Thanks for the reply are u talking about putting holes or slits in the top above the lights fans to allow the air to escape from the top of the canopy?
Having a really hot canopy will increase the daily temp swings (night vs day). You will also evaporate a lot more water, but the humid air won’t have any place to go. This could lead to wood rot or other similar humidity problems further down the line.
At the very least I would put some holes in the top. If your LEDs came with fans, try and put the vent holes right on top of them. I would offset the LED’s from the top of the canopy as well. That way the LED fans will blow some of the hot humid air out instead of just cooling the fixture.
All very good thoughts to which I have tried to prepare for. The canopy inside was painted with the white kiltz water moisture proof stuff. I also put a basic hang on fan inside the canopy to blow across the lights and too the back holes and it already lowered the AIR temp in the canopy from 92.5 down to 84.0. The led lights do have 3 fans each. I checked the water temp again and it’s maintaining about 78 during the morning so I’ll check it again tonight as the lights start to go off. Oh yeah and you can’t beat the auto top off system LOL. That thing is worth every penny. Over all I still might at 1" holes above all 6 fans
leds get hot at the diode but 8" away no heat so not really going to penetrate the water and heat it up much if at all. I would surely vent it, or blow fans to keep the air around the leds cool, that will make them last longer.
You also should figure out a way to get some vents just to transfer the room air with the air under the hood, not just for heat but to allow the moisture to escape so it doesn’t affect the light fixture and hardware
Looks like you still have some room to add t5 for attinic if needed
