Oh Oh… I sucumbed to the deep side today and bought my first clam! DPA had a nice little ORA Deraesa clam on sale for like $30, so i bit the hook and bought the bait. I hope it will be a good water filter for the frag tank. We shall see if i know how to take care of it. i set it on a chunk of rubble rock with a natural saddle shape for it to attach to, and placed it on a PVC pipe section in the sand. it seems happy, it keeps smiling and sticking it’s tongue out at me.
Is this like doing the twelve step program backwards to clam addiction? It all starts with one…
So far, So good! it likes the rock i set it on. didnt walk off it over night. just sitting there soaking up the sun. so perhaps it will attach. its staying opened nicely with its spout extended. and responsive to shadow moving over it. i just have to keep an eye on my spotted goby. he likes to bury everything in sand. but the clam is up a couple inches on the pvc for now. goby is piling around the pipe.
Ken got a very pretty derasa.
Welcome to the dark side Ken. There is no turning back now!! LOL…
Well, havent killed it yet. it seems to have lightly attched to the rock. its the thin pinstripe variety of golden green on purple with a blue edge. seems to like my light as its lips are thickening up like it just got botox. and the colors look brighter. i think i dosed a bit too much vodka last night as the tank was cloudy today with bacteria. so i guess the clam will have a treat to filter and eat.
Ive been loving all the nice pics of the bivalves all yous guys have and made an impulse buy. Bill helped me ID at the store. so something new for me to learn about. Uhhh, do they do any other tricks besides sit and roll over?
