New Clam!

So I finally went out and did it despite setting up a QT for them…

I just couldn’t stand looking at that clam at DPA any longer and simply had to take it home! They had it listed as Gold Maxima or Squamosa, turns out it is a Maxima, but more of a purple than a gold (depends on the lighting). Still I likes!

Nice Clam. My dad got just one of the ones from Dr. Macs…

How long is he? (that’s what she said)

Its probably a “He” now. Wont be a “She” untill it gets MUCH larger.

Are clams hermaphroditic (yea…big word!!)?

Nice, how were the Dr. Mac ones?? Sorry I missed your call.

I’d say maybe 2" in length.

Yea I thought they had both the goods and just released their sperm and eggs at separate times.

They were amazing. There were a lot of different colors. There was one there that was primarily a purple…a deep purple like the ravens purple…

Yes, clams are hermaphrodites. They do have both sets of sex organs, but the female set does not fully mature untill the clam is quite large becuase it takes to much energy for smaller clams to produce eggs, and young clams are generally limited in energy because of the growth requirements.
