So it’s almost time for me to need new vho bulbs. Tank is a 150g 4x2 I now have a vho’s with a DIY led in the middle. I want to remove everything and go with two t5s in the front and two t5s in the back. Now I want an led fixture to go in the center. I have an apex so my options are
Rapid led onyx $5-600 Crees and can hook to apex but would need another vdm module to dim with the apex
Reef breeders photon 48" long $500 has built in programmer. Bridgelux LEDs
Reef radiance 240 about $500 custom colors and bridgelux built in control.
What do you guys think? And anyone have exp. with these?
Well I can personally say that Rick of Reef Radiance has great customer service. I would purchase from him again tomorrow. Reef Breeders, well…i sent Logan messages for 2 weeks and called and called and never got a response back. As for the others, they look good but I know nothing about em. Give Rick a call, do a custom layout.
i found a diy kit for sale good price that i may look into 8 mean well drivers that connect to the apex with 36 rb 36 white 12 uv 5 green and 5 red all ready to go of course i would have to change it up but its cheaper than buying a kit
ok I have decided and stuff is on the way here is my plan for lighting my 150 that is 48" by 24" and is 30" deep
all cree led’s
driver 1 14 royal blue to port one of apex
driver 2 14 royal blue to port one apex
driver 3 3 total spectrum uv+ 3 semi uv led’s port 2 apex
driver 4 3 total spectrum uv+ 3 semi uv led’s port 2 apex
driver 5 4 green 4 red 2 blue port 3 apex
driver 6 14 cool whites port 4 apex
driver 7 6 cool white 6 blue port 4 apex
Then I will add two 54" ati blue plus in front of tank and the same in the back of the tank
I hope this will maintain growth and improve color all will be in a new hood.
i thought about the neutral whites but i already have the cool whites and red green ill have blue whats cyan what spectrum is that? Will it grow corals better or just highlight certain colors?
Why are you only running 6 uv leds on driver 3 and 4? Do they have a different requirement or use a different driver? I noticed 14 leds on the others. Are you putting the lenses on since its a deep tank? 60* or 90*?

lol yeah i enjoy the soldering and electronics just hate wood working and i’m making a new hood too. Just hope the corals keep they’re color[/quote]
Wish i was there to help man. Id be all over it. ::
Scott the full spectrum leds are 4 violets in one on one star each has 2 410nm-420nm and 2 420nm-430nm
so with three of them its actually 12 and with 3 semi leds that makes 15 on each rapid said its ok (15/driver).
No optics yet i’m not going to use any. I have some here, so i may experiment but this would be like 4 onyx’x with the amount of leds above the tank i also want good blending, but i can always add remove and change out.
Im still up in the air about the cool whites vs neutral whites and cyan-green-red-amber. I am sure about the royal blue and violets. I really like the total spectrum ones they are the same used in radions.
I got the chineese full spectrum, 7 “colors”. I just wish the red & green didn’t have 90 degree optics. I may change that later for 120* to even the color more.
