I know we did this 1 time at dpa. Any talks of doing it at fishbowl?
I think that is a great idea Jason! If we did it at the Fish Bowl we would probably have to have meetings there as well. I dont you would get many to travel up to New Castle.
I talk to Mike about it before and he didn’t mine and like the idea. I was gonna do it during their customer appreciation day that they just had, but it was on a Saturday and I couldn’t do it. If you want to get it together let me know I’ll help. I just don’t have time to do it, only on Sunday.
Yes! There seems to be growing Reefing interest in Central Delaware. The Fish Bowl is an enthusiastic LFS sponsor for DRC! And for all things Aquatic.

Engage.
Everytime i go in there i am ingaging people and informing them about the club.and they seem very interested in joining.
Agreed. One of the last times I was in FB, I was talking with a guy about setting up a tank and took it upon myself to show the guy Mike’s in-wall set-up behind the scenes, telling him what was important and not so much.
Mike was real appreciative. He and his employees were all busy with other customers and he took the time to thank me for helping and spending about an hour with the guy.

I also do the same when I go there and Mike also do mention our club when he talk to customers. What turn them off from joining or coming to our meetings is the drive up north. Our last meeting at the FB, I believe was a success. Lots of people from the north and some from the south did show up.
Understood about the membership drive. Like I said, I also would like to see members in the club step up to help. Along with other ideas/activities in our club. Bryant and I only have so much ideas in our heads for activities.
Right now we’re still needing ideas for the next meeting and also location for our club christmas party and that is just right around the corner.
Like I alway said, this is our club and WE can always make it better with our members help.
We need to start a tank of the month contest. Every months winner has to do a presentation on there setup at the meeting. Maybe 2 categories fowlr and reef?
See that’s what I’m talking about, Ideas! Let’s share them.
We can do that Jason. But it don’t have to be a contest. But if we do it like a contest we can give away prizes. Also, what everyone think of just tank tours? If you do one we can accommodate some prize for doing it? I believe most of us haven’t seen each others tank at all.
Id be more than happy to help with the dover meets. I like jasons idea of doing a TOTM, could barrow RC idea and feature it on the homepage and what not. I also like the tank tour idea, I personally havent seen but a small hand full of members tanks, could do frag swaps at the end of the tour and possibly have food and talk at the final tank.
I have all intentions of sniffing out the military reefers when im back to work.
Im all for totm and tank tours. A you askes me last year to do a tour. Im just not sure how to do it. I dont have the cameras to do it. But im game for it.
Totm, tank tours, photo contests, frag grow out contests. I’m game for all of them.

Photo contest can be done. But I don’t think many of our club members owns a camera maybe only phone camera, lol. But I have seen some nice pictures from a phone cameras too. Good idea.
Frag grow out contest could be done as well, but wouldn’t it take for ever? or see who has the best growth in one month time? will only goes for acros or soft corals as well?
Good ideas. Please keep it coming! thanks
A, I’ve seen a contest going on R2R that was pretty neat, was a pico in 90 contest, couldn’t be over a certain size and could use all resources you wanted to.
For example, a large flower vase with a simple HOB filter or a critter carrier turned into a reef, the options are pretty limitless when you start thinking of all the random things you could do.
Im sure all of us have enough random stuff laying around to throw things in a bowl for 90 days and see how it comes out lol.
Just something i seen and thought id throw it out there.
Give several people a frag of the same coral and measure it before they get it and then at the end of contest. Zoa,give out a certain amount to each person and count heads. Person with the most polyps wins.
As for tank size contest that is cool but,how much stuff you think will die in that short period? I think tank of the month is realitive to what the voters like. Thats why i think fowlr &reef contest might work better for most.
Club photographer? Anybody have any camera skills? Maybe we could talk saltcreep into taking pictures for us?
I agree jason, wasn’t thinking about the death rate.
As for photographers, i have seen rob post some pretty sweet pics, i believe he has the camera skills down also.
When my old club did the grow out contests, like Jason said, a particular piece was cut into so many frags, let heal and then distributed. I did one where is was SPS only but instead of fragging the piece out, we just let everyone keep a piece they already had but started the clock with the first pic. Each month, a new pic was loaded up and I think we let it go for 3 or 4 months. At the end, everyone voted on who had the best growth, color, overall health of the piece, etc. Then whoever was selected as the winner got frags of all the other participant’s pieces from the contest.
Right now, they’re doing a Tubb’s Blues grow out where a certain number of heads were glued to plugs and allowed to heal for a couple of weeks. Then they were distributed and are growing out now. I’ve kind of lost track of that thread though since I’m not as involved there as I am here now.
I like the idea of a FOWLR and Reef TOTM. It opens it up a lot more instead of just reefers. I’m sure it can be done with species specific tanks too - mantis, seahorses, nem dominated…
