New Orders

For those of you that are interested in freshwater we received an order today with a few notable mentions. A really nice Silver Arrowana, German Blue Rams, big colorful Electric Blue Dempseys, and some super large Rummy Nose Tetras.

On the salt side, we have a large ORA order scheduled to arrive tomorrow…details and photos to follow. Live Brine arrived today.

Ok, I’m no fresh water expert by any means, that being said: How big do Arrowana’s get and what is an appropriate size for a full grown?

BIG!!!

It can grow to a maximum size of around 36 inches or more in captivity. In the wild, it has been known to reach over 48 inches in length.

Yeah… not for me then. I was ok with them requiring a 75g down the line, but that is a bit much.

Try a school of the Rummy Noses. Ive always had a thing for Rummy noses. They are fun and good community fish. get along with everybody. But don’t ask me why.

Arrowanas r unique animals. Labrynth fish, which is y they spend most of the time at the surface. And very avid hunters. Mouth is shaped like the back of a c5! And will eat anything that fits in there, and some things that don’t lol. Get very large and strong, love to jump. That’s how they eat sometimes in the wild. Snatching birds from tree limbs from time to time. So a tight lid with some weight on it is a definite requirement. Mouthbrooders, with huge batches of fry at a time. A lot of times, the moms hard is cut off to collect the young in the wild. Stray from any that still have their yolk sak. They can be kinda tough to get eating when they r making that transition. Awesome fish tho, some of the rarer forms (gold or reds) demand huge money overseas, and here. More popular in japan and aisia. Definately a neat animal to keep. Generally by itself, or other large non aggressive fish.

This is true. My wife tells me that back in the phillipines-if you own an arrowana you are considered to be a wealthy person.
Then when her relatives come to the U.S. and see my tanks full of south pacific angels and butterflies -they dont seem too thrilled…Probably like looking at a tank full of goldfish for us…those fish are common there.
