New Site

Any updates on when the "New " Site will be up and running?

Frank what’s up with this? How close are we to launch day?

Id suggest, even if its ready, to hold off until after the swap.

Thats a good idea, Craig/ we have a bunch of offsite links to our frag swap thread.

Why does it say morty is the newest member all the time?

What are we waiting for???

The guy that’s working through all of the bugs and hiccups to have time after his day job, family, and other obligations to be able to get them all fixed, implemented, and get the site transferred over.

Unfortunately, when you’re migrating software and wish to retain functionality and historical information (such as 7 years worth of postings, it’s not nearly as simple as just flipping a switch.

Why is there a need for a new site?

Why is there a need for a new site?[/quote]

We are currently using some very old freeware that is no longer being supported. As a result, we’ve been experiencing forum errors - such as the blank/blue screen when clicking on some threads. The wrapper we use to make the site more functional and pleasant to use has not been playing well with the forum software we are using. In an interactive community such as this it is imperative to ensure that the website is functioning as designed and members are able to communicate in the fashion with which they are accustomed, or they end up migrating to other forums, thus hindering or eliminating the free flow of ideas, thoughts, and opinions here.

**Please note by freeware I mean we are using software that someone pirated 8-9 years ago and has never once been legitimate. We’re attempting to migrate to a purchased software package that will allow us the systemic upgrades, support, and functionality as it becomes available.

Was there ever any consideration to just starting with a clean slate?

It would be nice to carry all the old data over but the reality is that the current site is struggling to keep up and I’m sure we’ve lost a few potential members who just didn’t have the patience to deal with some of the errors you had mentioned.

I’m here because you guys are awesome but it’s definitely frustrating not being able to embed videos, getting those blue screens if you ever want to click back a page, etc…

When we had originally started discussing moving to updated software a year or so ago we did discuss starting fresh but we didn’t want to lose years worth of information, ideas, solutions, etc.

While the interaction of a site like this is a draw for us, the archives serve as a reference for new people to the hobby that would prefer to just read solutions that have worked for others and don’t want to post.

I agree though that the errors are frustrating, would love embedded videos, and more overall functionality. Unfortunately it’s one of those projects that can only be worked on by 1 person, and life gets in the way sometimes.

I’m sure it’s being worked on, and now that we’re moving in to the site’s slow time of the year hopefully we’ll get it done soon.

Sorry for stalling on this project just really have not had the time with some current health issues, work and planning our 25th anniversary honeymoon to Hawaii.

As it stands now there is some site theme changes that need to be installed and tested that takes about two or so hours each and then testing and waiting for replies and then the forum port itself will take about 4 to 6 hours alone.

Yes, our archives are a useful history of discussions from members and their collective input. the site in current condition seems to work 98% of the time. a simple back out and re enter seems to solve problems for now. Yes, poor old, busy Frank has been working the puter magic alone now for a while. by comparison, 8-9 years back we had a team of 8-10 people building the original site software and data for more than 8-12 months. and that site work has held up fine the past decade . so a little dust up may take some time and perseverance. we seem to have a derth of software savy people right now. Hudz is doing fine, but , it is a hobby after all and family and work life comes first.

I do miss the good old days of our big team jam sessions to build the original site. And we drank a lot of beer at Porters Pub too, in the process. We had our Super Sessions! (shameless generational plugs follow)

Sorry, i miss seeing this band play. but they provided the witchcraft we need today to complete our upgrade.

Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills - Super Session - 07 - Season Of The Witch Part 1 - YouTube

So bear with us, updating the site is a Holy Modal Exercise.

It takes time to develop.

Meanwhile, Enjoy my favorite Ancient Rifts!

I wish i knew something about software programming. I would be glad to help. but I’m pretty much helpless in that field.

Maybe we need more jam super sessions?

What sort of software help do you need? It’s been a few years since I’ve spent time writing meaningful code, but I’m sure I could help out. I did artificial intelligence research in my last job.
