New tank surprise tonight. ;)

Ok heres a question. Anyone have a green carpet anemone?? Anyone know how they reproduce?? Do they bud and pop off or does there need to be another one??

Came home tonight and I have a small green ball down on the lower part of my tank in a old torch coral shell. Its about the size of a marble right now and was not there last night. I did feed it several krill last night but I dont think that should of mattered. Thats the only thing I can think it is. Looks just like the big anemone at the top of my tank same color.

Unfortunately there are a lot of green things in our tank that look like other green things.

A pic would make our guesses much more educated.

I can get a pic. But not sure if that will answer my question.

It will at least give us an idea of what the green ball is. I don’t know much about how carpet anemones reproduce, but I know that BTAs split and it would be rare to find a little “ball” overnight with no outward signs of a split to the original.

Here ya go.

Ok - you were right. it didn’t help me at all. but it did cause me to start looking through some other boards to see what I could find. Apparently Carpets will occasionally bud offspring. It appears from my brief read that it is a process that takes a few days and usually does not happen overnight.

I’d say let’s see what it does over the next couple days. I’m sure Icy or someone with more experience with carpets will chime in with a more definitive answer. At least I hope they will - I’d hate to think I’m the resident expert :stuck_out_tongue:

No problem thanks , Ive had that carpet for years and nnever seen it do that. ???

Ok, to start this off, I have never had a carpet anemone. My first line of thought would be that it may be a small bud of frogspawn. Is there any chance that the color of the small blob is the same color that the frogspawn used to be? I know that the skeleton of mine ocassinally puts off smaller buds that will eventually grow into a full head. Perhaps this is such a thing… a small bud that you finally noticed? Check to see if it has a skeleton… that would tell you if this is the case or not.

If it doesnt have a skeleton, it very well may be a mini carpet anemone. If that turns out to be the case and you dont want it, I call first dibs ;D

Maybe he’s either really happy or stressed. Maybe the former cause you fattened him up last night?

Do you have any green mushrooms in the tank?

Either way new stuff is cool!

HMMMM not sure, but I don't have any frogspawn. I do have green mushrooms but they are all smooth. The little green blob is bumpy like the anemone. One of the fish went by it and it started to move. Cant see any skeleton at all. Its possible after getting fed last night had to shed. Who knows theres always something popping up in the tank. Gonna try to move it into a safer spot so I can moniter it to see what it does. If it is a bud hope more come.

Icy may have it because although you don’t have any frogspawn now that coral skeleton looks like a dead frogspawn skeleton. I have heard of skeletons looking completely dead and there still remains a small piece of life.

Wow who knows what it is but the frogspawns been gone for years but anythings possible I guess. ;D
