New to club scene not reef scene

Hello DRC and register member, I would like to introduce myself. My name is A Johnson; I’ve been reef keeping hobbyist for the past 20 something yrs now. Like most people, I’m sure, started with freshwater tanks.

Currently I have 120G all glass DD mix reef, dual corner over flow 5-6” deep plenum sand bed. It’s been set up for the past 7 years however, due to my time being away from home once a year and six month at a time; it’s like starting over again every time when I get home.

Here’s my equipment setup so far:

250W DE HQI, 4X65W actinic PC, 6X dual bluemoon LED
100 lbs live rock
30 gal sump
HOB fuge 24X4 w/2” sand bed
Odyssea skimmer

Have numerous animals and way too many to mention. I’ve attached FTS at its current state. Lastly, hope to make to the club meeting one of these days. Work to make money for the hobby have to come first.

Hey! Welcome to the club! your tank looks pretty good. I don’t see any problems with it. all looks pretty happy in there. Always good to see a happy tank with a plenum. I think they work great. and probably helps it get along during your away times. What do you think?

Welcome! As you may have read in the news feed above the next event is the summer BBQ June 26TH 3pm at Craig’s, more info can be found in the announcment section. This is a really low key event great for meeting people.

Have any plans for changes with your system?

Welcome reefman66. It is great to have you. Your tank looks nice. I see you like monti caps. Maybe we can trade sometime. I have a pretty decent idaho grape that has really started to form a nice scrolling bowl shape.

It would be great if you could make it to the BBQ. There is nothing more fun than a bunch of fellow reef geeks sharing some good food and talk.

Hey Welcome to DRC

That tang with it’s nose caught in the clam looks familiar.

Tank looks real nice.

Would be happy to have you come to the BBQ.

Nice to see a succesful tank using a plenum !! I used to use them years ago with great results…

Thanks everyone for encouraging words. hopefully one of these day I will be able to meet each of you face to face and share/trade some reef keeping experiences and secrets. I love reef discussions!

For the 20 something years I’ve been in reef keeping, I’ve been using plenum method and never had any bad experiences. I believe if there nothing broke why fix it, unless to be adventurous. I will continue with this method unless there something else out there (I know there is) that is much more simpler and ease of reef keeping.
