john, here’s a technique you can try for night shots
moonlight on an orange in the daytime chalice
same chalice, moonlight plus a flashlight
they aren’t the best shots as i didn’t use a tripod and i just wanted to show the possibilities of additional light. but the highlight in colors is dramatic and different. experiment a bit with someone else holding the flashlight, or with led flashlight or different angles for different effects

Ellen, I bought a Nikon D60 and do not have a top down box. But I have seen photos that were taken with them and are really great for getting true colors by not having to look thru the glass.
