Nori

does nori go bad. i have had some in a zip-lock bag for 2 years maybe more. Where can i buy some locally. Thanks

any oriental store will have it, but make sure it’s unsalted or unflavored. it doesn’t actually go bad unless it gets too humid.

grocery stores have nori near the tofu/organic food and produce section, but like paul says make sure its as plain as plain can be

If you go to an asian grocery store for the nori, thay have more selection other than just the norm green. They also have red version that I use and my fish seems to really like, more than the green.

Even if it’s kept in a humid place, its hard and not molddy, you can still use it in the tank. It will soften in the water and the fishes will still eat it up.

Mold wold be the only concern.

I get mine from the grocery store (Safeway), what oriental places do folks go?

well the tang dosnt seem to interested in it. i even soaked it in garlic for a few minutes. any trick for getting them to eat nori??

I’m assuming that your using the green type. Not all tangs will eat those believe it or not. Try the red ones if you can get your hand on it. My sailfin won’t touch the green one nither, but when I put in the red ones and the tang along with others, tares it up.

Here in Dover we have 2 on Bay road across the street from each other.

i was feeding the purple/red stuff.

Maybe try the green. Then see if you can put a small piece in there for a day till they realize what it is and pick at it. If not take it out of the tank so that it will not foul the water.

Rubber band it to some rock rubble and let it sit on the sand bed. Since most are use to grazing algae off rocks it is an easy transition.

The Asian Grocery on Kirkwood highway near KFC

Also there is an asian market in the East Market Plaza on Main Street in Newark. In the shopping center is also Newark Natural Foods, which is an organic place and I’ll bet they have some too.

Both stores in Newark carry nori. I was purchasing my supply from the asian store before my tang died.

Thnx all ill have to get some tomorrow after work!
