Hey guys, been out for a while dealing with work and such. I hope to start getting back to meetings this month.
I’m planning for octopus III. Any ideas on setting up aesthetically? I am considering a foam wall to make a cave look, but the last time I tried it was not successful. Anyone have experience on the foam backs?
Some crazy colored LED lighting might be fun. Look outside the fish industry and find something cheap you can change colors on. If your octo is white you could turn it purple, red, green, or whatever. Just a thought. If you have dim lighting you could tacky it up with some crazy fake colored plastic plants from the fresh water world and really turn it into an alien environment.
In my opinion I would go one way or another. Super crazy color stuff or natural world. Often times trying to go half way between the two looks odd.
Hi Joe. keeping a cephalopod is always an interesting idea. Third times a charm, or so they say. are you looking for a larger size octo you can arm wrestle with? Like: http://store.fishsupplyunderwater.com/ccb00-11902.html
I don’t know much about foam wall building, but have you considered an under gravel filter for the overflow to a fuge and sump? I think if you have a UG filter with a tube riser, you can connect it to a bulkhead in the upper corner. if you use a T fitting outside, one tube as a riser vent, and the other drains down to the sump, it wont overflow. that way you can get nitrogen cycle filtration from the UG and the octo wont get stuck on or block a syphon overflow or bulkhead strainer. then vacuum the gravel weekly for big stuff.
