Does anyone know where I can get an external pump for my reef octopus recirculating skimmer. I’ve been looking online everywhere and can"t seem to find them. Some how mine started leaking water inside and tripping the breaker. Its an external pump and all i find are submersible pumps. appreciate the help. And mine doesn’t look like these new ones that have a shut off i guess is what it is mine has the pipe that you push up and down to adjust water level in the skimmer

Hello Kathy
Welcome to the site
Which reef octopus do you have?
I think its 8" recirculating skimmer for up to 250 gal
Sounds like one of their older models. You may need to get in touch with Coralvue directly to find out if those pumps are still available. If their not, I’m sure they can tell you what fit you would need to have.
Are you sure it’s the pump and not the skimmer housing itself?
Do you have any pics of the skimmer and pump
There are universal punps out there that can be adapted to work. The only thing some of the pump can get pricey , bubble Magnus pumps are coming on some of them if I remember correctly and usually the external pumps are not as common.
why would it be the skimmer housing my husband took it all apart and plugged in just the pump and it blew the breaker and when he shakes the pump you can hear liquid in there
and yes i can do pics but I’m not sure how to get them on here. I can always bring the pump over to the store to
Gonna be something with the pump. Have you had it long sitting dry for a while or just started doing it ?
The skimmer and pump will be 4 years old in sept. and it just started doing it, a couple of weeks ago i turned the skimmer off to put some chemiclean in the tank and had it off a couple of days and when i turned it back on it tripped the breaker. I’ve been looking online went to coralvue site and i think i found one on there it says its a replacement for my skimmer. but I’m going to keep looking.
It’s possible that it could need to be cleaned try soaking the pump in white vinegar and water
It’s also could be just the impeller stuck which may be fixable with a soak
Have you taken the pump apart?? If not try taking it apart and see if the pellet will come out if it won’t try doin above if it does take the impeller out and plug the pump in, and if it still blows the breaker the pump is just gonna need t b replaced
yes my husband pulled the impeller out but when you shake the pump you can hear water inside the pump so he says there must be a leak to the inside
If it is a external pump only then yeah but a lot if them are designed to be internal or external
My ascoll pump on my swc is internal or external
Did you get pics of the set up?
Many of the reef octopus skimmers use the haleia line of pumps for both the standard and recirculating skimmers. The current 8" model, DNW200 uses the OTP3000 pump. This has been in production for at least 5 years now and is a good skimmer. I had a similar problem with my reef octopus NWB150 which uses an OTP2000 pump. Water inside, shorts out, trips the breaker. I upgraded to the Diablo DC skimmer pump, the DC3500S. It rocks and was a major upgrade! You can get the pump from the LFS here in newark by special order or use one of our sponsors. Premium aquatics out of Indiana carries replacement reef octopus skimmer pumps.
Reading the review on this page where you can order a replacement, it seems to be a common problem with this line of pumps. You can also upgrade to a bubble blaster pump made by reef octopus. The one thing you MUST make sure to do is check the fitting on the pump. There is 3 different designs, the large grey threaded fitting being the most recent design. They ARE NOT interchangeable. They do sell adapter kits though.
Coralvue.com has them. Its the manufacturer’s web page. Its where I got the adapter kit for the upgrade kit to the DC3500S. They have great customer service. Hope this helps you!!
thank you for your help so it sounds like i probably should upgrade the pump. My pimp has lasted 4 years though unlike that guys that only last 14 months. i just don’t ant to pay 200. dollars for a pump

This is a family friendly forum. LOL :: JK. Upgrading the pump to a bubble blaster would make it equivlant to a super reef octopus skimmer. If you check out the specs, pretty much the only difference is the pump. Still less than a new skimmer either pump you go with.
OMG sorry about that. LOL. i might check into those then maybe i can find them a little cheaper thanks again for your help
