All the above is true! One of the most deadly venoms in the world. He calls it his pet, but the life cycle of octopi in the wild is only about 18 months at most. He hasn’t had it very long. has to be an illegal import. they grow, mate, lay eggs and die in 12-18 months. But this is not a pet. it’s venom has no known antidote. It’s very fast acting.

Overpriced and just don’t forget if you get bite YOU JUST PLAIN DIE!!! No anti venom!!! [/quote]
That’s not entirely true. You will likely die. And if you don’t happen to die right away, you’d still be ineligible to be an organ donor when you do happen to die.
i can get one of these any given week from one of our distributors… even had some special requests for thm. we refuse to get them. and simply explain to people that these r not pets. they r extremely poisonous, possibly fatal, AND capable of getting out of the tank!!!
getting out of the tank would really only present a problem when trying to get it back into the tank, it seems to me, as octo don’t generally go around biting things at random, like vampires. if they want to eat it or need defenses, then the prey, or in this case your fingers or palm holding it might be considered meat or predator, so say bye bye.
btw, back in the 70’s i had a small regular octo escape from a basement tank. this guy climbed completely up the steps and was walking across the kitchen floor. suckers grasping and loosening sounded like cellophane crinkling. picked him up, he wrapped himself completely around my hand and i put him back into the tank, he inked and died shortly afterwards. yeah i was stupid to have one, but back then, who knew.

ok, so then, if it gets out… u are recommending letting it roam until it dies??? MOST people’s first reaction to a deadly escapee would be to PUT IT BACK!

ono. not recommending that at all. never purchase one of these!!!
if someone were foolish enough, and it got out, use a net, use a box, use something it can grab that’s two feet or 2 miles away from human flesh
