Opinions on DI Resin/Cartridge

Looking to get some opinions.

What type of Deionization Resin or cartridge do you use and why?

I need to order prefilters for my RO and figure it is time I start running DI since I’m starting to use more phosphate remover on my tanks.(been feeding more recently)

The last one I picked up was a prefilled one from air water and ice. I am planning on a order from bulk reef supply and planning on getting a bag of nucular grade color changing. I don’t know if any one brand is better then another.

Check the economics of buying a refillable DI resin cartrige and the cost of refilling with bulk resin. I think its less in the long run. i believe AWI and BFS and Two Part Solutions(bulk reef supply) have canisters if you need one, refillable cartridges, and bulk mixed(anion/cation) color changing nuke grade resin. yup it will save a lot of money over time. it looks like it takes 1.25 pounds of resin to refill the cartridge. so judge by the pound how many fills from a bag of resin. it looks like TPS might have the best deals for add on parts and resin.

if your RO unit has a TDS meter built in, or you monitor weekly by hand, the non color changing resin is less expensive.

Thanks for the input guys. I do have an inline, but haven’t had it hooked up in a long while and have used my hand held one. Might have to hook it up again.

i go spectrapure all the way. i have used brs di resin and it burnt out quick. i have been looking into getting a maxcap di. u should run them before the di, and it improves the life of the “normal” di to about 1000 gallons. they have a life of about 350 gallons themselves. normal dis die about 100. also is ur di vert or horizontal? horizontal dis go alot quicker aswellll. buying di cartridges gets expensive. i would go spectra pure refillable all the way. they also make a few different kinds so u can find the right one!

My RO/DI is from the filter guys, so I will just go with them. I’ve heard you can just recharge your DI resin somehow, so you never have to buy it again? Anyone know about that?

there was a long thread about it on RC that i read, i gathered that its pretty darn expnsive to recharge the resin, and with the labor, its just as cost effective to buy it. i just checked with spectrapure and they dont sell bulk resin. my bad. but they make great stuff! brs has bulk resin cheap
