Nice!! How much for the plug in picture 4? ;D
Oh and houndsbay John, this was the species I was offering up for trade for a frag of the Hulk Green cloves you got last night. From what I’ve heard they go for about $10-$15 a polyp on some sites online! I’ve got a good bit of frags now.
Bellamy when the mangroves come in season I’ll ship one down to you.
Some people like clams, I like xenia and cloves.

Lol. Well problem is by the time I get my lazy butt to upload pictures the frags have completely over grown what they are attached to 3-4 times after I’ve fragged them back. For that reason I stopped using the little plugs for a while now. I’ll see what I have and shoot you a PM.
LMK
When you do more, Jon I'd be interested in some as well.

How about one of my purple/pink yumas instead? The ones you bought should be through QT by now and ready to frag
Jon, that will work for a trade for the yellow polyps!

Your joking right? lol Not sure if I have a one polyp frag. Perhaps the polyps and a little $.
I didn’t start this thread as a FS thread you know. Just wanted to share something I enjoyed as much as you guys like sharing your fish and clam pics.
Bellamy I’ll have to see if I can find them. I think I may have lost them.
Hey Jon,
What is your secret to get these things to grow? I got a frag from you a while back(3 months?) and still no growth.
special sauce!.. Cut them a little, trigger a growth spurt… Maybe?! what light do u have them under…
Ellen I’m sorry to hear yours have not grown. What kind of flow are they are kept? I think the biggest factor for getting healthy polyps in my system has been flow. I have them acclimated to fairly high light and pretty randomized flow. I’ll see if I can find a video from when they were in my cell phones focus range. If I tried to take a pic now they’d be a blur. Do you have a lot of snails and hermits? Mine seem to stay closed up for a while after being touched, I could imagine if this were to happen a lot and they spent a lot of time closed up they wouldn’t be able to absorb much from the water column or get much light. Or do you have a fish that might perch near them?
There was a second part I was going to say, but Lost started
Lighting is definitely not the issue. They are under 6 t-5 in an ATI sunpower. I have decent flow also. I can’t think of any reason they aren’t growing. They are open and looking good just no growth.
ellen i also got these from john and mine are running out runners. place a few frag plugs right up agianst the base of the and should set out runners. i also moved mine around some to change flow i started with 4 heads and am up to around15 or 16 now.
I believe I told Glen a theory I had, well more of a casual observation, but I’ve seen it more than once and believe it may help with growing out colonies of corals like this. I noticed the same thing with Cespitularia as well. Ellen if your cloves are looking healthy and have been for over a month try shifting them half way down your tank or lower if possible. If they are already fairly low perhaps move them to a more shaded area. I’ve found with both these cloves and with Cespitulaira that if you have a healthy colony that is strong and healthy and you shift it to a dark area it will get a little thinner, but will also send out runners quickly seeming reaching for a way to reach for the light. If you place a couple of rocks or tiles or whatever surrounding the coral it will crawl across them and may attach. Once the coral is returned to higher light(not too fast) it will bulk up again and return to it’s original look and beauty, but now it will be significantly larger and all along the runners that were sent out new polyps will form.
I’ve seen this happen several times over and have experimented with it a bit. You really need to have a healthy colony in your tank for an extended period of time thriving before you try it though. Perhaps this will help.
Glen I’m glad to hear yours are doing well.
Thanks for the tips guys. I will try them.
