Over flow....problems?

So I have a unique problem, yesterday I purchased a beautiful starry blenny from That Pet Place introduced him at night because my powder blue is the boss of the tank and don’t want any aggression. slap-stick
Well today when I got home and thoroughly combed over my tank looking for him and also the surrounding floor ::rofl::
I then hoped he’d be in the sump but no such luck, he had to be in the over flowm :BB) while balanceing myself on a wobbly computer chair and maneuver my LEDs to the right, hovering over top of my tank I see his face looking right up at me ::hitsthefan:: Anyone have any words of wisdom for this search and rescue?

If you can’t net him out or convince him to take the water slide, one way that works well though requires some time is to turn off the return, block the overflow outlet, then start filling the overflow with clean sand, you will need a wet/dry vac with a nozzle that is long enough and narrow enough to reach the bottom of your overflow as you will need to vacuum the sand out once you get it to the top and you get your fishy back.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Ironically I had a new clownish do this to me yesterday. Your solution may be a little different as I have 2 overflows, but I just blocked the drain on the one the clownish was in. Eventually the overflow filled up and the clown swam back in to the tank.

To keep it from happening again I will use gutter guard to block off the access hole he used.

when i had a tank, my starry did it three times. he did not have a prob going right into the net, though, and was easy to catch.

Flooding the overflow with the fish in it, is how I got my 6line wrasse out.

The black gutter guard works great, easy to trim to size. I also cut some to fit over the top of both overflows to keep out snails and jumpers.
If you need to see a pic I will post one.

I usually end up pulling the pipe out and letting it all flow in the sump. The toilet effect works great for me lol. Just a pain in the ass and really sucks when its a big fish like a foxface that is 6".

Thank you all for the good ideas, I’m going to attempt to let him go for a water slide ride after work today. I tried last night but failed :SURRENDER it also coulda been because it was after a few cold ones. BoNg.
Will let ya know how it goes!

ha mine does it too the starry and the cleaner wrasse. the starry did it about 6 times i would net him out but i saw him one night and was really tired said i’ll get him tomorrow well i forgot and he’s gone now. oops.

Just an up date, he is back into the tank settling in nice, let’s hope the powder blue plays nice :-)###
