tore away about 1/4 inch. any ideas other than a shotgun or moving ric to the glass w/magnetic frag plug that’s too far away for the bstrd to get to? that’s what i did for now, unless there’s a better idea. advice welcome.
He was not eating the ric there may have been food under or around the ric and he moved it to get to the food.
wow peps eating ric never heard of them eating corals but never say never in this hobby. guess just move the ric up little bit and see if peps find it agian. my rics are in middle of tank and should be ok moving them anywhere in tank. if ya just wait awhile the peps will disappear. mine do
there was a dark rich colored green rip in the edge of the coral, the edge is open where he was chewing. at first i thought he was getting food also, but not the case. the ric withdrew and closed up partly. i will try for a picture tomorrow
Are you sure wou have a peppermint shrimp? Often store sell camelback shrimp as peppermint shrimp. They look pretty close too. Camelback shrimp are not considered to be reef safe, because it has a tendency to pick at colonial anemones, disc anemones, mushrooms, soft leather and other various types of polyped corals.
Can you tell the difference from a distance?
mine is on the left, less red, the eyes are correct mstches w/ what’s in the tank
Looks like you don’t have a pep, it’s a camelback! Does it have that predominant hump in the tail like the one on the left does?
holy sheet. all my life i thought the ones ive seen and owned were peppermints. any suggestions besides keeping the rics outta its way? is there a trap of some sort?
don’t know about a trap, can you net the bugger?
he likes to clean my hand when i let him, so maybe there’s some possibility, coz a net wont work–too many hiding places. but what should i do with him once caught, if i can even do that-- toss, sell, return, which i doubt since he’s about 5 weeks in the tank–yesterday was the first time i caught him chompin away, and nobody else is damaged.

Dont toss him someone in the club will surily take him
Eat it once you catch it? It’d be a quick meal…
I’ve noticed my one of my peppermints attack one of my rics as well. I’ve only seen him do it once and to one ric. The gf swears we’ve got the one of the right, but I can’t tell. Picked 'em up from DPA.
When these guys are small they are nearly impossible to tell the difference. The color difference could be caused by different lights. They do look very similar in color. They are both scavengers and if they are feed regularly wont bother your corals unless they have a taste for them…Yum
mine came from thatfishplace.
i moved the ric and he has not yet gone after anythinh more. am constructing a cheap trap. will get him tonight!!! cross my heart! will not throw him away either.
I got a good look at them this morning, for sure peppermints, they have that translucent look to them. Make sure you’re not throwing away a peppermint and it really is a camel. Both my peppermints and my cleaner have a tendency to steal food from my corals, I just reprimand them

With bamboo skewers, thrown harpoon style
If they get too bad that’s exactly how!
