Hope so I haven’t bought my tickets yet. Do we have to pay for two tickets if we bring a significant other? [/quote]
Crap. I sold one $9 coral and have to pay more then that just bring my gf in, lol. Damn it, lol. Not only that, but I can’t get a hold of the guy/girl who bought it to figure out how to meet him/her there.
Was fun, definitely was a good amount of people and frags. Mac had the best stuff followed by someone who i forget the name of but bought from. I ended up getting a red planet acro, and thats all. When i went to buy something else, i made an offer and the guy from captain nemos freak out and acted like the coral was worth a 80 bucks… and i quote " Hell no, i should be selling that thing for 80 bucks"… well then mister, why are u selling it for 20 if its worth 80, and why has no1 bought it? … other than that everything was nice…
Kyle has a lot to share, raffles were good, but some dude from Louisiana won everything with 300 bucks in tickets… and the frag raffle was a nightmare… but it was a good time…
yup was fun indeed, not bad for my first frag swap, didnt know what to expect. little smaller then i would have thought. john and i walked around the whole thing like 5 times before even an hour went by…not joking.
so i picked up a few nice things, ill post some pics later on after they get all settled in but i won 2 frags in the raffles, and r/o unit and then i bought 3 more frags all for a total of 60$…for everything! im not telling you what i got cause i want to leave you wanting more but i will describe them as the “delicate full monti” youll see why later
ok so now that ive got you wondering what i got here goes pics are from phone
from left to right we have
-“delicate purple acro” from joe yaiullo’s tank (raffle)
-montipora undata (bought)
-rainbow monti, if you look closely there is somehting on the corner of the frag plug…its a superman monti!!! now thats a hitch-hiker(bought)
-a now 2nd superman monti(raffle)
montipora spongodes (bought)
so with the discovery of the superman monti hitch hiker(polyps extended and everything) i came home with 6 pieces of coral and a barnd spakin new pinnicle r/o unit. def worth the trip.
was in the car ready to come, but Steph wasn’t feeling well.
So jealous. There was a guy their from Marine Farmers I only get to see about once a year at the big swaps. Also wanted to see Melev talk. Did you guys see the talks?
yea we saw the talks from joe and mark. both were very good and informative. joe talked about atlantis and then touched on fish spawning which was interesting and marks talk was good but i saw the entire presentation over on RC so it wasnt new to me. it was about lighting and par readings and whatnot. but still good nonetheless
so went to coveman’s fragswapper page (where i bought undata, rainbow and spongodes) apparently the purple rim undatas that he had there are tyree >LOL<, thats a happy supprise
boy, yous guys had all the fun. I had to stay home and grind up tree limbs into mulch. lots of yard work to do this year. I’ll have to wait for the atlantis trip to see about fish spawning. Been thinking about how to set up a pelagic spawning tank to collect and raise free floating fish eggs. Joe does it with their big tank.
Unless something has changed he’s looked at them in a sort of filter sock. I didn’t think he was actually doing anything with the eggs or larvae besides staring at them. There isn’t much to do with them unless you have the ability to collect pelagic larvae like they do in Hawaii. Trouble with raising this type of fish is, A getting large fish with massively large pre-mating dances to spawn(Need a TALL tank) B collecting the larvae before filtration or predation, C feeding them foods never before seen in hobbyist tanks.
Ken there is a LARGE demand for cardinal fish why jump ships to something else when cardinal fish are so easy and you enjoyed doing it so much? Or when there is still demand for clown fish instead of stopping your egg collection because DPA has enough clowns sprinkle them to other LFS in the area and actually make a dent in the demand on the wild caught populations.
Well, i could start with broadcast spawners like Mandarin Gobies. they dont need much room. I dont know, are all cardinal fish mouth brooders like the Banggai cardinals? mouth brooding has the down side of very small hatches over a 5 week cycle . low productivity. lots of effort and tanks, and they are not that expensive.
