flow and nutrients are the two biggest factors in erradicating cyano. water changes, GFO, Phosban etc are good ways to eliminate nutrients. Flow is just as important to remember.
You may need to change the direction of a PH or add an extra to the DT to prevent dead spots. dead spots of low or no flow allow pockets of nitrients to settle and the cyano will just go wild.
Chemicals should be used as a last resport, as is said time and time again, make sure you’re treating the cause and not just the problem. With that being said I have had to use chemi-clean several times and never had an issue with using it, just follow the directions methodically.
completely agree w/the sir craig on the last resort and flow, but if it’s broke and nothin works, try chemi but by directions only!

My thoughts exactly. I just added another mp40 so that brings the turn over in my tank up to about 5200 gph, since I am only running the vortechs at about 70%. This is around 60x times per hour. I don’t think flow is a problem. I am running GFO in a TLF reactor and I just put fresh in about 10 days ago. I have been changing 16 gallons of water once a week since March 15th. I have an RODI and the TDS is 0.
My Ph is 8.1-8.3, alk 8.0, calc 440, nitrates 0, phosphate 0, (I know they can’t really be zero because I got algae growing). My plan is to keep up with what I am doing and add the chemicals as a last resort.
Overall the corals and fish look great. I just like a clean sand bed and I know I just need to be patient.
