Places to buy a semi-custom tank

After checking out and pricing all in one nano tanks I have decided 4 things:
I don’t want to have the filtration in the tank
I want a rimless cube that truly is a cube.
I have all the extra equipment no need to buy stuff I will have to gut
I want LED

If you know a place that you would recommend please post it

I know glass cages but I wanted to compare prices with a few different vendors. It would most likely be a custom piece since it is an odd shape.

Wanted Glass
18"18"18" rimless drilled 2 - 1" bulkheads (1 overflow and 1 return) 25.2 gallons
16"16"16" rimless drilled 2 - 1" bulkheads 17.7 gallons

The closest I could find so far without customizing at glasscages is
Glass - 17 Square (Rimless) 18 x 18 x 12 Tall $110 16.8 gallons
Acrylic - 16x16x24 Top(Extra): $12 $111 26.6 gallons
Acrylic - 16x16x16 Top(Extra): $12 $111 17.7 gallons * Best so far

I like the gallons of the 16x16x16 but would prefer glass so it will not scratch

Local would be better so I can save shipping

Kinda OT, but have you thought about those Zero Edge tanks…droool

Yeah I can only drool away, that is not going to happen

I did learn that Armco Aquatics Service and Installation and Dr Mac are authorized retailers for zero edge aquariums
I also checked out a few by http://www.finnex.net/home.php but the price is high and I can put a system together for a lot less

Ouch on the price!

Watchout for Glasscages.com. I know with the bigger tanks people in D.C. are not happy with them. I will see if i can find the link.

I have seen firsthand some sloppy silicone jobs on some of the larger tanks also.

Try asking AGE how much it would cost. They have PVC bottoms that are pretty sweet.

AGE?

Glass Cages doesn’t ship glass tanks via UPS so if it do it it would have to be acrylic

Acrylic and Glass Exhibits.

Not sure what their prices are like, but I saw one of their tanks and was REALLY impressed. Of course it was a 300g tank, so its hard not to be, but it was very well built.

I agree, I have heard lots of bad things about glasscages. Mostly in the large reef tank forums on RC. Tanks breaking a couple months after being built and glasscages saying oh well, too bad. I have delt with them as well, definitely not comfortable with them building me a tank and the customer service was horrible.

Shawn bought a 6’ custom 75gallon from glasscages recently and its not that bad. The details leave a lot to be desired, but that tank will not be breaking anytime soon. Its defintiely overbuilt to say the least. The construction is insane, but the silicon is sloppy and so is the trim. As far as customer service goes, i think thats old news. Ive gotten quotes from them and shawn has bought two tanks and their customer service was on point. The ironic thing is, what made glasscages so appealing in the past was their low prices and its no longer the case. Charlie and I got Shawn a 265gallon perfecto in at DPA for less than it would have cost for a glasscages tank. Their base prices are deceivingly low. but when you add the associated costs of having a reef ready tank and the delivery fee it gets pricey quick. Keep in mind, they charge you a steep delivery fee even if you drive out of the way to a show they are already set up at to pick up your tank.

heres one of NJRC’s sponsors on the Jersey shore. that’s drive and pick up distance.

and they are offering a stimulus package at this time:

Wow the have a picture of something close and they use black silicone. I will have to contact them for a quote

Maybe some of the NJRC reefers have bought tanks from them and can offer an opinion. Of course, they might be biased a little toward a sponsor. But yup, the variety of tanks look very nice. and well made. I wonder what they cost?

I will let you know I asked for a quote and if they offer club tours

Got a reply form them.

Hello Al,

Thanks for contacting us regarding your custom aquarium project!

The rimless aquariums of the size you have requested start at about $400.
Starphire glass and overflow-boxes, etc would be extra. These small nano
aquariums are not our specialty due to the fact that the cost of
construction time is very high for us as we’re really geared for large
high-end aquariums. If you are interested, I would be happy to develop a
quote for this aquarium.

We don’t have a display store or retail location. We have our manufacturing
facility and offices in Toms River but we don’t offer tours. We do welcome
visits from customers who have made purchases to visit during the
construction process and or when they come to pick-up their completed
aquarium. Let me know if you have any other questions and if you are
interested in a quote for the 16x16x16 rimless aquarium.
Thanks Again,

Chris Walker

Message: Looking for price on a Tank - glass rimless 16"16"16" tank with black silicone. Do you have a display store in Toms River or is everything built to order? Also our reef club, Delaware reef Club is always looking for interesting locations to see how things are made, do you offer tours?

Wow, pretty pricey for a small tank! Guess your going to keep looking. Seems as if large tanks are their specialty, maybe I should keep them in mind for my upgrade.

The tanks quality looks awesome. I may see what it would cost to get starphire glass (low iron) from them or a local glass shop and assemble myself

ok. heres another one 18x18x18.

looks like Oceanic may be coming out with a rimless glass tank series. might have a cube too.

and Enheim fluval may sell the new EDGE series here too.

i guess rimless or frameless will go mainstream soon.
