Potassium

Does anyone check their water for potassium levels?

What test kit are you using?

Hi John,

Good Question. It Brings many good things to mind.

Yes, I have dosed Potassium before. It makes Bluuuue-er Blues in your acros. And Purp-eler Purrrrr-ples too! Per this old article for coloring up yer corals. Its a great general guide.

you will have to look up the target levels for NSW concentrations and dose acordingly, more or less.

It really works. I just happen to still have about 30 pounds of Potassium Chloride, from Lowes in a bucket. They sell it for a low sodium recharge salt for home water softeners. I gave Bill #1 a jug of it in the past, and he said: Wowsa! everything turned Blue! I believe the normal level of Potassium in sea water is about 390-400 PPM, similar to Calcium.

Oh , Here is another good article going back to the basics of spectrum of light, and basic chemistry for growth and coloration.

I use an old Red Sea Potassium Pro test kit. a bit complex. i think i only used it a couple times. then just reverted to adding a hand full of big chunks of KCl to the sump. its pretty tolerant of a wider range, it seems.

I Recomend adding KCl. if you want some, I’ll give you a big baggie full, next meeting.

Anybody else need some? I still have a bucket full .

now that you mentioned it. i just threw a handfull in the tanks.

What? Me worry??

I fed a pinch of banana to the tank once a week for 2 weeks now. They love it.

Thats a new one! The tangs probably like it. but not enough potassium in bannana to move the meter on tank water potassoium concentration.

Although, if YOU eat 3-4 bannanas a day for a year, your whole body count will show a spike in the Radio-isotopes of Potassium in your bones and teeth in the annual employee physical at all nuclear power plants. it will show you as a source of radiation. albeit small. Probably carbon isotopes too, if you happen to do personal carbon dosing of vodka and such on a regular basis. It Happens…

Thanks for the info Ken, interesting. I don’t need any potassium, but thanks for offering it.
