Here’s a question for everyone, Do powerheads live up to their gph claims? I have recently changed over to mj 900"s with mods and I’m wondering if they really do put out to 10x the flow that they claim. Or is it like 5x. I know alot of things in this hobby make BIG claims and never live up to what is claimed. :-)lol
Im not sure about every mod, but im sure that a non-modded powerhead is pretty close to the gph spec set by the manufacture. If you have ever used a powehead as a water pump(ie reactor feed, water change, etc) it pushes a lot of water. I use a MJ1200 for my carbon reactor and i wouldnt be surprised at all if the gph is accurate.
The GPH posted by the manuf. is probally right on… Someone probally tested the GPH flow with the moded maxi jets but it may not be an exact 5x or 10x…
Also the GPH does decrease over time.
Looks sweet. I really have to start working with acrylic. Though I’m also considering building a glass tank to the size I want, so I’ll be working with glass soon.
if the tank get real hot and stays hot all day and night long, just leave the fan ON. if the temp drops enough at night, just plug the fan into the light timer.
LIGHTS ON… FAN ON
LIGHTS OFF… FAN OFF.
For the sake of perfection and the environment I like to try to run heating and cooling devices only when needed. Unfortunitly it’s not as simple as lights on = tanks hot. If the apartment is cool the tank is alright, but when I try to save electricity and run the AC less during the day when no humans are home then things get a little warm.
Jon
Those fans are a LOT cheaper to run then the AC
Not sure what to call these guys for sure. More images of the species and info here: “Another mystery coral”
Selling the frag in the back of this image. ~8 polyps
Hoping someone with a nice camera will pick this up, but I suppose I will honor the typical first come first serve.
Opps, forgot the price. $15 just to get this guy out there.
hey dude, i want it, it looks pretty sweet, and its different. add it to my list if im the first one. to respond…and i think i am unless someone beats me out while im typing this.
would like next frag if comes around
Kdino it’s yours. I will shoot you a PM in a second. Glen I may frag the larger piece in the front later this week if I get some time. Will just have to go on some rubble rock as I used up on my discs and plugs except for some that I am saving for something special.(actually this is something special, won’t be selling off of those special plugs, I’ll post about them later something new I just started to use for propagation)
When you frag, is there any chance i can get one polyp. I like seeing things grow from one polyp lol.
Would probably be pretty difficult to do, but I’ll try to make a pretty small frag. These guys are tiny.
o ok, thanks broha
either these things grow like crazy or a few were hiding when you had them but this evening i counted about 20 polyps. ohh and the rest of the stuff look great thanks jon!!
Hum… I’ll have to go back and look at the pics. Recently I have been taking a lot of pictures right after the lights go on so all the polyps may not have been out yet. These little sobs are soo small it is easier to count in the pics rather then in the tank. There is also a decent amount of flow, so things don’t sit still which makes it harder to count. OK, enough rambling, lol. Glad the corals are doing well!
So… Kdino are they speading all over your tank yet? I haven’t noticed any growth spurts even with new bulbs.
nope not all over the tank, just all over the plug so far…although today and yesterday they werent out as much…not sure why. come to think of it the gsp hasnt been out for about a week now…any ideas, everything else looks fine and params seem stable
Been VERY cold last couple of days. If you don’t have a pH probe the pH could be fluctuating due to increased CO2 in the room.(Your house may be super closed up and heater working over time) Just a guess.
Regardless if it is just a couple days I wouldn’t worry too much.
