Proper Netiquette (internet etiquette or whatever)

Ok, when you are responding to a thread on a forum I have never known if it was polite to refer to someone by their screen name or their real name if you know it.

For instance in http://delreefclub.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=28&topic=2488.new#new this thread I didn’t know if I should say thanks Paul or thanks moliken.

I often refer to people by there screen name so everyone, including new people on the board, know who I am referring to. But at the same time I always worry the people think I have forgotten the real name of the person sitting behind the keyboard I am talking to.

I don’t want to be rude and have people think I don’t know who I am talking to, but at the same time I don’t want to further confuse people who are new to the board and just getting familiar with the screen names.

we will just have to wear those{ HELLO MY NAME IS } tags at the meetings… lOl which really is a good idea for newbys to see who’s who.

Should be required for at least officers starting in Jan… that way I wouldn’t be required to wear one.

nah everyone should, we should have a file that you have to be a member to download that gives everyones name and screen name. Names are so much better, screennames i feel weird saying… like its weird to call you gordonious, so i say jon. I have my macna badge i can wear…

but i think name tag ftw… also could we sit at a rectangular table, cause the 10 different tables really takes a lot away from the discussion… just a thought…

For the other night I was debating on that, but the size of the group it would have been a little tough. Hopefully the number of people will continue to grow and if we have more then 30 people it would have to be a lot of rectangular tables pushed together. Then if you show a power point presentation a lot of people would be at a disadvantage.

Humm… I’ll have to think that one through and talk to the other officers about it. I also think we would need to get permission from people. Currently I like the idea of doing something like that. Hummm…

as long as we only use first name, it shouldt be an issue. we can simply use an “opt out” policy instead of an “opt in” and anyone who isnt comfortable with their first name being associated with their username can have it removed.

o ya, def only first names, and opt out is good, i think that would help soooo much.

For square table You can always turn your chairs around. And we would need liek 10 together. But i think the best discussion i had as a club was my first meeting when we were all in a table format, and i could talk face to face. though it was only 10 people, but i feel that was good…

Just don’t call me late for dinner.

Joe your three nights late. There was free food Monday and you missed out. :stuck_out_tongue:
