I know some of my levels are low, but I am water changing right now with my reef foundations abc+ added in sufficient quantities to bring calc and mag and other traces up to par for SPS.
pH changes a lot daily based on respiration/photosynthesis, so if your really concerned I would test several times throughout the day and night to see where you are. Kalkwasser is the easiest fix, but like others have said chasing an exact parameter value is unnecessary.
I sprinkle in some Seachem Marine Buffer 8.3 after a weeks worth of top off water. I should probably just add it to my top off water? Test is usually 8.1 or better.
Any time of year you have to close up the house due to heat/cold, you’re going to get elevated levels of CO2 in the household atmosphere, causing the pH in your system to drop a bit through normal gas exchange. Any pH buffer is nothing more than a alkalinity supplement, usually a blend of: sodium bi-carbonate(baking soda), sodium carbonate(soda ash), and sometimes borate. Although you will see an increase in pH right after you dose, it’s only temporary, and once your system reaches equilibrium with the surrounding atmosphere, again through gas exchange, the pH will drop again and you’ll be left with the elevated alkalinity levels. Make sure your skimmer is in good working order, to make sure you’re getting a good gas exchange. Make sure your Mg is at least 1200ppm, your Ca is at least 400ppm and your alk is at least 8 dKH, then check your pH in the morning just before your lights come on, if it’s not any lower than ~7.8 I wouldn’t worry about it. If you still want to raise it, the least expensive method would be to run an air line to an outside air source(if practicable) to the air intake of your skimmer. Kalkwasser is a good balanced supplement of Ca and Alk, and will help, since it will utilize some of the CO2, but you need to be careful not to add too much at once, as might happen with some top off pumps. Another option is to use a CO2 scrubber to the intake of your skimmer, but the Soda Lime can get expensive.
