Our Red Bubble Tip Anemone split for the first time! TerraReef Aquariums
We will likely wait another month and then cut one of them with a knife. We did not want to cut the anemone until it split on its’ own proving it was healthy and ready to be divided.
Awesome. I wish mine would split. I have one with 4 colors in it, red, orange, green, white. I be to scared to cut a anemone in half or my prized mushroom.
Thats cool Jon YahoO
The cutting part sounds scary though (for the anenome) . have you done that already with your other bubble tips?
I have cut our green bubble tip anemone in half, thirds, and quarters about 12 or so times. The first time I ever took a blade to it I believe it had split on it’s own twice and we had kept it for several years. We probably have about 15 or so GBTAs roaming around the same tank. I don’t believe we’ve lost any however fluctuating between 15-20 GBTAs if we lost a tiny one and it melted under Xenia(also grown in this tank) we likely wouldn’t notice.
I typically wait until one of the anemones walks up on the wall and the cut it with a clean new blade. Cutting on a clean flat surface is important. Jagged cutting will lead to significant tissue lose and a larger surface area to possibly become infected.
While the RBTA did walk on the wall at least once we did not want to risk until we were sure it was adapted enough to the tank. I should also note this anemone came from aquaculture before we received it.(roughly two years ago) We not only culture animals, but when possible we buy aquacultured as well.
And I have had one of Jon’s cut anemones in my tank for several years now. No issues, big beautiful, full, and flowing.
So Jon, is this a true RBTA? I can’t click on the FB link from work. If so - how much are you selling the babies for??
Not sure exactly how you would define true, but it is a beautiful RBTA in my opinion. Often lightly colored or maroon RBTAs are seen in LFS, but this one is very bright solid color.
YouTube work on your server?
Can’t get to facebok from work either - can you post the updates here so those of us suffering from “Web Filters” can enjoy them too?
Sorry Craig, I forgot some couldn’t see due to firewalls. Takes less time to copy and paste the URL then to ftp the image and create a link to there. Doesn’t your phone have a mobile ap for facebook?
The image is nothing fancy, but may let you see if it would be something you would consider a true RBTA.
I am considering adding a second vortech to reduce how quickly the intake screen jams up to the point where flow is reduced. Should probably just take the time to replace them more often.
