Ok, my turn. Anyone ever used a recirc skimmer? I was thinking about one of the Octopus ones, but am not sure. Any down sides to simply T/Ying the overflows to the skimmer and sump? This would alleviate me needing another pump. Want to use one as it will allow me to keep the skimmer behind the tank and not underneath, more room back there and more water in the sump/fuge.

The biggest downfall for me would be the risk of an overflow if the skimmer goes nuts. I like the added protection of having my skimmer in the sump. Other than that I don’t have any experience with external skimmers.

That “going nuts” could be worked around also but I agree an in sump model should stay in sump for ease
Not too worried about it overflowing, it’s a vinyl basement floor which sees water daily (oops!).
It seemed to me that recirc skimmers were ‘in sump’ or ‘external from sump’ type skimmers.
Al, what would you suggest for a ‘workaround’? I was planning on running a line from the collection cup to another larger container.
