Recommend a dry fish food?

Flakes, all my fish eat em. They’re quick and easy, no prep, I’m sure most of us use them.

What do you guys use that you would recommend to others?

I’ve used two different kinds of flake food sofar with my tank:

  1. Omega One Marine Flakes

  2. Tetra Tetra Color Tropical Flakes. (yes I know its not specific to saltwater fish. leftover from my oldest son’s tank)

The reason I ask, is due to hair algae growth in my tank. While I don’t suspect fish food to be the one and only source of the problem, I’m wondering if anyone had a recommended fish food that they havent had an issue with adding an over abundance of excess nutrients to their water.

On the other hand, I do need to refresh the clean-up crew. I’ve though about running GFO but its extra cost for a reactor, pump, and media. That money is probably better spent on a skimmer upgrade. My Phos and Nitrate #'s are zero, so its being consumed by my cheato…and the hair algae at a rate that isn’t building up. I also take care not to overfeed, and I feed the anemone typically only 1x a week with frozen mysis. 2x a week if I feel bad for it, which I usually dont.

Thanks

I try to stay from flakes just personal preference. I use new life spectrum small pellots. they float for a short time then sink. Every fish I’ve had eats them accept the achillies but he only eats nori anyway.

The deal with floating pellets has been my HOB overflow. That thing is like “Hungry Hippos” for anything on the surface of the water. As such, I typicaly submerge the flakes and let them go to prevent most from clinging to the surface of the water. However, I’ve seen people use floating rings for pellet food, to contain them (for the most part). I might just have to go that route…thanks Bill.

My PBT eats the flakes and nori…However, I wish he ate GHA like my Yellow Tang did…it was a Lawnmower!

LOL yeah my over flow picks some of them up but most get down to the bottom.

Yeah I generally throw them twards the front of the tank and there sinking before they reach the back.

I use the NLS pellets too, but I turn off my return pump while feeding. I’ll feed a couple cubes of PE/Hikari mysis after the pellets, and turn on the circulating pumps for about 15 minutes before I turn the returns back on.

Omega one flakes or pellets are the IMO because they have the best first invredints most other brands are filled with crap first and then a little good stuff.

I also like the sinking veggie pellets from ocean nutrition there good for cichlids and tangs angels blennys ect.

Don’t froget frozen is always great 2

Thanks guys, picked up some NLS THERA-A+ pellets today. Will test them out. Also picked up an Algae Blenny and an Emerald Crab. Lets hope the Niger doesn’t see him as dinner…picked a larger guy, about the size of a 50c piece.
