Red/brown fuzzies on snail.

Just got some snails, one’s got some fuzzzies. It’s definitely dark fuzzies, either brown or red, and they do not peel/pick off easily at all. What is this, and is it doing bad or good?

The goby gets his way into every shot. Every single one.

+1 hard to tell from the pics, have you tried to google reef aquarium algae? see if you can match up something.
The snails prob aren’t eating it, or it wouldn’t be there. do you have any tangs, or other algae eaters i the tank, if so are they nipping at it?

Get that thing out of there! Get it out and pray to christ it didnt spread any of the algae… that is red turf algae and I fought it for months! get it out now!

It doesn’t pull off easy at all, it mushes like liver when you squeeze it and it is hard to eliminate. I put large Turbo snails in to get rid of it and with water changes and scrubbing of rocks it took some time.

OMG!! I just ran up to the tank, pulled up a sleeve, grabbed then chucked the snail into the woods. I feel terrible. That description fit it perfectly, and the goby and flame angel kept eyeing it but wouldn’t touch it. The cleaner shrimp went crazy over the fuzzy snail but only for about 20 seconds, then he backed off and hasn’t messed with it. That snail made a formal sacrifice everyone. Moment of silence, please.
I’ll be sure to watch for anything similar that pops up, and scrub the hell out of it. The snail was only in there for an hour or so, hopefully it didn’t do much damage

LOL!

sometimes when my snails grow some fuzz, i take them out and scrubb their shells with a stainless steel tooth brush. , rinse well then return. eventually it goes away. but tims right. why mess around.
