Since, there really has not been a specified thread, and just a discussion about it, i think it is time we start formulating and planning out an experiment. So far we have really talked about on experiment indepth, and that was the NSW vs. Synthetic. I might be able to score the club some salt form Instant Ocean for the experiment if you would need it. What topics do other people want to do.
NSW Vs. Synthetic
Macro Algae and growth Inhibitation
Coral merging (corals growing into each other to form mixed corals)
Just throwing some ideas out there. Does anyone else have some ideas?
Before this gets out of hand again i want to say a quick word. this is been put on the back burner insofar as the an “official” club activity. we just have our plates way to full right not to start with anything new. however, like before, it doesnt need to be “official”. anyone can do anything on their own and publish their results in this forum if they choose. i think it would be great.
if someone qualified has the time and motivation to do this and wants to step up and own the project then please contact me. it would be more than ideal to have a member “officially” take charge of this project. it would likely require significant time but i think it would be rewarding. when i unveil the new site on monday i will speak briefly to everyone about our need for volunteers as it pertains to content and web authoring which this would fall under.
Ya, the problem with mixing Monti Caps, is the growth. Green and Orange grow fast, and normally green out grows everything else… It would be a cool experiment. Setup 20 frags of it, then see how they grow, The sell them off to the club/on reefcentral and make some money for the club…
ive seen a guy make a franken paly with a purple death and nuclear green. first one died but the second one healed and grew nicely looked like a pie chart with a big section of purple and a small section of green. it was pretty sweet. all he did was slice the paly down the middle all the way to the base and super glue them back together. im sure it would take a few looses before you got it just right. but i kinda wanna try. ive also seen a franken scoly which was cool but i didnt see any after pics down the line so i dont know how it did.
not exactly. from what i understand its nothing more than two seperatly corals growing together. they dont become a distinct species.
i saw the paly one your referring to. there was a LOT of hype around it…already had a fancy LE name that imagine was going to make millions!!! lol it was the “twoface” paly. from what i recall every single baby polyp was either a purple death OR a nuclear green but not a hybrid like the original polyp. I saw an only vendor a couple of months ago selling a brain that was chopped direcly in half and glued to another brain of almost an identical size. Eh…i guess thats what happens when we run out of cool names!
