Being as DPA sells cheato I think it would be in bad form to bring some in to give to another reefer.
I generally head up to WC every other week or so - not sure I will be up there this weekend though. If you’re not in a rush I know I will be heading up that way on the 18th.

Your best bet is to get some from many different sources to help spread the bio diversity of your tank.

if its taken from a store tank where there isn’t a population already…copepods won’t just grow out of thin air
I think what Jon meant is that its probably impossible to find chaeto that doesnt have pods even if you get it from a LFS. Its pretty much a given that if you get chaeto you get pods regardless of the source, but, depending on the source you might get other less desireable things ;D

i agree but i wanted to make the point you won’t just culture cheato and have pods start growing… yes they are generally associated together but thats not always a fact
yeah man the aquaclear is what i use. i just put some rubble in there off my live rock and some macro, and presto! instant fuge. yeah that light will work fine. i got a 4watt t5 on mine that i got at home depot for like 7 bucks. werks lika charm
oh ps- make sure you tumble the macro about twice or three times a day in the aquaclear. it needs to tumble to do the job properly.
ive decided to put it in my back chamber, with LR as well. i just need to get around to building a reflector in the back. prob some cardboard and tinfoil or make the trip to homedepot and get some proper reflector

ive heard this before, and there might be a little truth in it, but im not convinced. i have chaeto in my modded compartment fuge on my nano. the flow through the fuge is minimum. i just pulled it out yesterday to cut it back and it was litterally a brick of chaeto. super dense and vibrant and the exact shape of the compartment. this has always been the case for me and ive always been a low flow fuge guy. i dont have a reference for what the growth would have been in higher flow, but to be honest, i cant imagine it growing any faster.

why not mod that little light you had to simply hang from the back of the glass? it will light the macro through the back of the glass and you wont need a reflector.
it’s done!! I did this mod b4, so the back of the tank i scraped off the black so light can shine through.

A little clarification here:
It doesn’t need to tumble to do the job properly per se. The reason most people put cheato in high flow to make it tumble is so the whole ball gets light evenly, otherise you end up with spots dying out and re-relleasing nutrients in to the water. When modding a nano and using the back chamber I think MOST hobbiests light it from the back so the light is penetrating the shallowest part of the cheato ball so tumbling isn’t as necessary.
If you have a strong enough light over your fuge area you won’t have to tumble it either.
