I’m getting really confused about replacing my mh bulbs. so many kinds and prices for them. i have decided on staying with 20,000 k bulbs but which brand to buy? currently i have some i bought just about a year ago from awi,so they are probally near the end of usefullness. any favorites out there?
20000K bulbs from different companies will look different more or less blue. Even the ballast can effect color also. (Also par value but its hard to get an independent and accurate answer)
Its personal preference. I used Ushio 14000K as it was less blue and had a higher par value.
You could always browse our sponsors. I know at least one of them offers fairly cheap MH bulbs.
I just replaced my 3 SE 250w m/h bulbs. I have been using Reeflux bulbs for the last 3 yrs and I really like the way they look and the growth I am getting from them. The last two years I had been using 12 k for 2 reasons,1. Reeflux didn’t make a 20 k bulb and 2. I personally didn’t like the bluer look.Well, Reeflux just came out with a 20k m/h bulb that is just what I wanted, as far as not to much blue and the par values are better than their own 12k bulb. I am running the bulbs on Coralvue ballasts and I really am very happy with the new 20k bulb. And if you pm me, because I don’t know if I can mention the website I purchased my bulbs from on here, I wiil give it’s name to you. And if you buy more than one bulb, the shipping is free. I ordered my bulbs last Wednesday and they were delivered on Thursday afternoon.
While we do encourage people to shop with our sponsors, we wont keep people from passing on a good deal. Feel free to post where you got the bulbs… this isnt Reefcentral where you cant talk about anybody but sponsors.
Thanks Icy, just wanted to make sure it wsa ok with the club. I ordered them from this website called Reef Exotics. Here is the link…http://www.reefexotics.com/index.htm. I have bought alot of items from him,his name is Tony. If you find a better price somewhere else, he will match it. He also has a beautiful 450 gal reef tank in his living room.
