Replacing my MJ1200.

Yeah, so right now the tank has one MJ1200 in laminar flow mode (1300gph) on one side of my tank, opposite of the overflow. I’m looking to purchase 2 Koralia Evo’s, one for each side.

Budget is roughly 100$

Question is, do I go with two of the 550gph, 750gph, or 1050gph, or a combination of the two.

What I’m trying to avoid is the inside of my tank looking like is in the middle of a hurricane 24x7, but I want to have enough flow to be able to give a try at SPS. Right now I have some xenia, frogspawn, kenya tree, and looking to purchase some gorgonian for a nice eventual “mixed reef” setup.

I’m currently thinking two 750gph’s will be ok. Thoughts?

I have a 750gph that is too much for my tank. I use it mostly to mix water. If you are interested we can work something out (I got it used, guy threw it in with some salt, it works fine though) I would like to buy another 425 for my tank.

Also, you can throw it in your tank and see if you like it, if not I’ll take it back

I bought an aqeon 500gph PH a few months back… big disappointment in my 30g. :TWOCENTS

if it were me I would do two 1050’s or two Sicce Voyager 3s oh and that would be for a 40g if biger I would up to 1400s or Sicce Voyager 4s, but I like a lot of flow.

Myself I have a MP10 turn all the way up, Sea Swirl on a 500GPH return and a Polario ML7 all on a 40g and it’s just enough.

uhh, your old MJ1200 should only pump 1200 Liters per hour, or about 300 GPH. you dont have as much flow now as you think you do.

Jack, let me know what you want for that 750, and are you going to the meeting tomorrow night? 1/28

Mortyn, man that sounds like alot of flow, even what you “suggested” for your 40gal is like 50x turnover, you running a glass bottom? It just sounds like I’d have a constant sandstorm in my tank with that flow if that was my setup.

Two 1050’s would be 23x turnover
Two 1400’s would be 31x turnover

I might try messing with Jacks 750gph combined with my MJ1200 for now, since I don’t have any acro’s yet.

Ken,
The new MJ Pro’s come factory with the standard powerhead prop, an a larger propeller and a new cage that they call " Circulation Pump and/or Laminar Flow" mode. From what I’ve read, they do indeed turn over 1200gph for roughly $30.00. They CAN be noisy, and it takes some noodling to get it quiet. You also can’t put them on wave makers as they knock really bad when they start up…and sometimes start up in reverse.

I did buy the magnet mount for it, as the suction cups only lasted until the 1st “pop off” and subsequent decimation of my substrate.

I plan on going (as long as work doesn’t interfere). I will bring it with me to the meeting and you can see if you want it.

ok, i gotcha. forgot about the propeller mod. you are correct. i use one too. they work pretty good.
