Return pump

Hey guys,

Shopping for a return pump for the 210. Whats some recommendations? Im no opposed to external or internal. Wanna get something that can power the tank, 2 larger reactors and refugium.

What ya think?

Reeflo hybrid 4300gph or 5500

Knew you’d say that jason, lol. I was looking at the hybrid snapper/dart gold. Also was looking at the diablo, jabeo, and other dc pumps. Just on the fence. Wish I could find a good deal on the reeflo pumps.

Look on reef central, always guys selling them used

I say DC. :TWOCENTS I talked with a few people who have DC return pumps and they all love them. Way less power draw, very quiet and many can be used externally. And fully controllable! most have a stand alone controller with 6 presets and a feed hold that kicks on after about 10 minutes. Neptune apex & Digital aquatics are currently working on interface modules to incorporate the pump control. Something like the RLSS waveline 12000. 3170 GPH, and only 170 watts. Try to find that flow with that low of power on an AC pump. I am currently waiting for a diablo DC skimmer pump to arrive, will let you know if I’m happy with it if you want. I believe the future of return pumps is here, but I have been wrong a lot. (she keeps telling me)

Scott, which diablo did you get and where did you order it from? I was looking into the snapper/dart hybrid but i do like the controllable diablo and waveline pumps.

I ordered the Diablo 3500s to upgrade my Reef octopus NWB150 skimmer. I had Charlie at DPA get it for me since I’m working there now. Most places are about the same cost. It did require an adapter, got straight from coralvue. You might be able to get the pump right from them. FYI the diablo series DC pumps are just gen 1 waveline pumps. I think Jebao also uses them. I need to look for the article / review on reef central. It goes more in depth.

The newest generation waveline DC12000 is fully controllable from an apex or other using rj45 jacks. Good read here.

This has an overview of other DC pumps.

Hope some of this helps. There is alot of flexibility in a DC pump. The Reeflo is nice but if you want to change flow, it is a bit more complicated than a push of a button on your controller / smart phone. In the end, what will best suit you needs? What do you want from the pump? Size, noise, head height, cost play a factor? If I was a billionaire, the red dragon would be nice. But since I likely never will be what gives me best bang for my buck?
