Looking to pick some brains on your ro/di experiences. We have a rain soft water softener, no option getting rid of that. Our well water is so bad with sulfur its undrinkable without it. The ro unit that we currently use for water changes and drinking water (gpd not sufficient), and only produces about 1 to 2 gallons at a time. Looking to have a separate ro/di unit just for tank. What are you suggestions? Lots to choose from online and different variations. 4 stage is probably the minimal that anyone would want to go? Correct? If that’s what I was to go with, would you add anything to it? Or is it better to bump it up to say a 5 or 6 stage. Kind of complicated as to what all the stages do. Any help pointing us in right direction would be helpful! TIA
I would suggest you contact one of the RO/DI vendors and explain your situation. I used to contact Russ from Buckeye Hydro, but I see that AWI is a sponsor, so I would start with them.
was looking at AWI saw this unit Typhoon, RODI, Reverse Osmosis, Deionization also was looking at the unit A spoke about a few weeks back on here http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?ca=7652641e-e726-4845-a9f4-570a1285b77f&c=51fd0280-d271-11e3-9677-d4ae526edc76&ch=5294aea0-d271-11e3-969d-d4ae526edc76

sorry guys but heres a 6 stage one from amazon http://www.amazon.com/STAGE-Aquarium-Reverse-Osmosis-MEMBRANE/dp/B00LK9QNV0/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1416656982&sr=8-7&keywords=4+stage+ro+di+system
maybe im missing something, but do you have a storage tank? I use mine for fish and drinking also, but having the storage pressure tank really makes it available when ever you need it. like this one:

Ill just throw out there that I have a pretty low opinion of most RODI suppliers. In the “conversations” I have had with them most of them rarely have any science behind their claims that their system is any better than anyone else. Ive been using a ebay RODI for over 10 yrs from aqua safe canada. I tested the water for TDS obviously, but took a sample into work and did GCMS on it to verify that there was no trace of anything in it. it was super clean. JMHO… if you want to know more feel free to pm me.
What is your water pressure? Needs to be atleast 60 or you need a booster pump.let me know i have the tool you need to test your pressure.

Thats probally your problem. Rodi needs to be higher then yoir well pump will go. But if you wanna check let me know i will be home all night tonight and tomorrow
we are on a well too… I forget what my pressure is, but its not 60. I think it was closer to 45 or so. Ive thought about a booster pump as well, but havent gotten around to it. beadlocked is right, it will help and reduce your waste water. that said, even with the booster, it still takes some time the system to make water. I have my DI stage split off from my drinking system.
its up to you on what you want, but you could just get another storage tank and plumb that in giving you around 5gal total then purchase a DI stage separate as well. it would probably save you some money… or you could just get a second system like you mentioned…
I have this unit :http://www.aquacave.com/vertex-puratek-deluxe-200-gpd-ro-di-unit.html
