ro/di tds hypothetical question

if i rinse my empty ro/di holding bucket [0 tds] with regular h20 [200 tds] drain and let it dry, can i reuse it for ro/di again? what happens to the tds when there’s nothing for them to D in? do they come back when i put new water in? should I rinse in 0 tds water?

why cant you rinse it out with ro/di?

well, i could, but that wastes the rodi, and it’s also a hypothetical. does the dissolved solids go away, dry out and come back or what?

Might be time for a new hobby. lOl

Short answer yes. For sure.

If I worried that much about TDS I’d never put anything in my tank!

If you are washing it out with 200 tds water you are dump out that water and are only leaving behind little tiny droplets of 200 tds water. This will then get extremely diluted by your RO/DI water and be a MUCH lower tds number (provided your RO/DI is 0 tds).

i.e. You left behind droplets that consisted of 1% of the available space for water. These droplets are 200 tds. You fill up the other 99% with 0 tds water your final water total tds is 2 tds. I doubt your taking up even 1% of the space with the droplets of water.
I’m sure when I fart next to my RO/DI water it gets higher than 2 tds.

That work for ya Paul?

ian you must have really powerful farts. solid ones too
i really wasn’t worried, just really curious. i needed some confirmation of my hypothesis. did the question sound too geeky?

Sometimes… :stuck_out_tongue: Depends on what I drank the night before… BoNg

This hobby is geeky ;D

yeah, its all just about numbers. a very small TDS left from a very small volume film of water on the barrel wall, will be almost undetectable when diluted with a full barrel of RODI water. its just math. a percent of a percentage. called dilution. you probly get more stuff just from the dust in the air settling on the tank water. Now that’s full of all kinds of crazy stuff. like from the refinery, chem plants, industry, cars, airbourn pesticides… get my drift. bigger fish to fry.

I always have a piece of POLY PAD in the filter stream to pick up that stuff. just to make sure.

as i thought. thanks for the ability to trust in my own opinion on this. appreciate it. but it really was hypothetical. i rinse my buckets with rodi water
